I don't think any closer is 100% certain of their role.
Aardsma could still pitch well, but have the horrendous early bad luck that Hanrahan had in '09, and Seattle would most likely chuck him out on his ear. This could happen to any pitcher.
In my opinion he still should turn back into a pumpkin because he is a flyballer with a career 5.17 BB/9.

As a side note, David Aardsma has been hurt and pitched like a dog so far - 3 innings, 4/1 BB/K, 10.80 ERA.
