How's my team? - first draft of 2010

Postby Grizzlies » Tue Mar 23, 2010 8:37 pm

9-team Yahoo! total points league (we just couldn't get a 10th, which sucks). I had the 5th overall pick.
We start 1-C, 1-1B, 1-2B, 1-3B, 1-SS, 3-OF, 1-Util, 3-SP, 2-RP (set roster daily)

Points are:
Batting: R-1, 1B-1, 2B-2, 3B-3, HR-4, RBI-1, SB-2, BB (or IBB)-1, HBP-1
Pitching: Innings pitched-1, W-10, CG-6, Shutouts-10, SV-6, Holds-4, Ks-1
Note that BA, ERA and WHIP don't matter

Here's my team:
C- Miguel Montero
1B- Kendry Morales, Lance Berkman
2B- Dustin Pedroia
SS- Jimmy Rollins, Alexei Ramírez
3B- Álex Rodríguez, Mark DeRosa(1B,3B,OF)
OF- Carl Crawford, Jason Bay, Nick Markakis, Andrew McCutchen
SP- Tim Lincecum (anybody worried about him?), Josh Johnson, Ryan Dempster, James Shields, Edwin Jackson, Stephen Strasburg (I know he's in AA)
RP- Joakim Soria, Brian Wilson

A league that has HBP as a category? WOW.
Also, not sure what SH means...shutouts?

Offensively I think you need a little more speed--all I see is Crawford and McCutchen there.
Not sure why you're using a roster spot on Straus-dude. I'd try to pick up a next-in-line closer for your holds.
Perhaps someone like a JJPutz, Saito, Ryan Madson(closer now about to become setup guy) or if you're daring, Francisco Liriano or Guerrier.

No reason to sniff at Rollins + Pedroia's projected 50ish between the two of them. But that debate is moot because it is points scoring and not categorical. You don't need speed, you just need whatever gets you points.

So, pitchers have no way to accrue negative value in your league? :-? Every one of your bench spots should be spent on starters. Starters starters startersFree points just for guys getting IP? No detriment for letting up buncha hits, walks and earned runs? Get as much pitching as you can. Grab high K starters with bad peripherals that are consequently ranked low (Jorge de la Rosa, Johnathan Sanchez)

Just to further illustrate how high scoring pitching is in this format, a very average pitcher (Gavin Floyd) would've scored more points in this league than Jimmy Rollins last year.

Yes, this is a points league, so I don't care about winning stat categories (like SB). My bad, SH is shutouts.

No negative points for batters or pitchers, but there is a limit on games played per position and innings pitched total (combined all SP and RP). We get 162 games played for each batting position (including util) and 1300 total innings pitched. Because of this we can't stream pitchers (unless you want to bur through your innings). And it doesn't really make sense to have a bench full of SP for the same reason.

Sorry, guess I should have clarified that.

I would still aim for high K, ugly peripheral guys who go late into games. Might as well make the most out of your IP.

The best strikeout guys available are Sanchez, Scherzer, Blanton and Wolf. Webb is out there too, but who knows when he's coming back.

anybody else? Don't forget it's 10 points for a win and 1 per strikeout, so a 15 win guy with 50 fewer strikeouts is better than a 8 win guy.
