Looking for DEEP SLEEPER starting pitchers...

Postby TheGhost » Tue Mar 23, 2010 2:29 pm

Okay, here's the deal. I already drafted my team and need to add some pitching depth. My league awards 20 points for a pitching victory. To give that some perspective, we award 4 points for a home run. Two start per week pitchers are absolutely huge and for the most part all our benches are stocked with extra pitchers. That said, there's not a lot of availability on the waiver wire at this point... especially since we carry deep rosters.

As far as I can tell the best available options are: Mike Pelfrey, Kyle Drabek, Clayton Richard, Ross Ohlendorf, Jamie Moyer, Paul Maholm, Zach Duke, Manny Parra, Scott Richmond, Brett Cecil, Derek Holland, Gio Gonzales and Luke Hochevar.

Like I said, pretty slim pickings. Any of these guys stand out to you that might be of use this year. Who's most likly to win the most games? Any young guys, sleepers, rookies, etc that you think is going to be better then these guys? Thanks!!

I've been pushing Parra hard all winter. The addition of Rick Peterson to the coaching staff is a plus for him too. Gio Gonzalez is another guy worth taking a flyer on. His K potential is huge.

I got hopes for Parra too. Nice sleeper.

Holland had a great year last year, but I believe he might be ticketed for AAA to begin this year.
Another guy that might be available is Chris Volstad (FLA)? Have a look.

Gio Gonzalez I think would be my pick. I would also keep an eye on how Toronto's rotation breaks camp. I see it as Marcum, Romero, Morrow, Rzepczynski, McGowan. However if injuries Richmond is probably the first to step in then Tallet and Cecil. Drabek won't pitch in the bigs this year unless the injuries really stack up like last year or he is just too lights out to keep him in AA/AAA.

Parra, Holland and Hochevar would be a few others I'd consider.
