Im in a 5x5 Roto 12 team keeper league and traded Prince Fielder and Chad Qualls for Josh Beckett and Carlos Lee..How'd I do? I needed to help my pitching. Here is my new team.
C Russell Martin 1st Miguel Cabrera 2nd Kelly Johnson SS Miguel Tejada 3rd Alex Rodriguez OF Bobby Abreu OF Torii Hunter OF Juan Rivera OF Juan Pierre OF Connor Jackson U Mark Teixiera U Matt Holliday U Carlos Lee
P Josh Beckett P Scott Baker P Jair Jurrgens P Derek Lowe P Hiroki Kuroda P Shawn Marcum P Scott Feldman P Ben Sheets P Chris R Young
Bench P Jon Rauch P Kevin Gregg P Franklin Morales P Matt Latos P Fausto Carmona
I know there will be more opportunities on closers via the free agency, so have no worry on saves
Sorry to say but I think the other team got the better end of the deal. You did need another SP but I don't think dealing Prince was the way to go about it. Especially in a keeper league. Carlos Lee is slowing down and on the decline and I would've wanted a better arm than Beckett. A trade when you're giving up the best player by far is never usually a good one.
Last year and how I finished is why I did this trade. In HR's/RBI's and Average I won all 3 catagories and came in # 2 in runs, infact I basically overshot RBI's and won by 60+ RBI's, almost the same with HR's meanwhile my starting pitching suffered and I bombed there. So I know I can let up on HR's and RBI's and still be in great shape. Meanwhile I'll take a # 1 starter in Beckett who I know can get me 17-20 Wins and nice 3.60, 200K, 1.20 Whip guy in Beckett to help my pitching. I was just unbalanced last year and feel better with inproved pitching.
I agree. You got the short end of that one by a wide margin. Pitching is something that you can usually improve on through your waiver wire. There are several pitchers that emerge every season and several others that are solid in stretches. Unless your trade deadline is nearing and you've been hammered by injuries or have been completely unable to add decent pitching, I never recommend dealing a top bat for pitching help.
Not many people like Carlos Lee? A guy who averages 29 HR, 107 RBI and a .305 Ave..Basically for Fielder who as we know is a 40 HR, 120 RBI .285 Ave, I got a 18 Win 200K # 1 Ace and a 28/100/.300 bat..I just was not wanting to go into the season with Jair Jurrgens,Scott Baker and Derek Lowe anchoring my staff. I look at it this way.I stand to lose 10-12 HR's and 20 RBI's , but gain in Average by having Carlos Lee instead of Fielder, but I gain 18-20 Win's and 200K's with nice Whip and ERA and I still lose?
Yeah, you may be right but what happens in 2 years when Carlos Lee retires. If it were a redraft league you may not have lost by as much but you got ripped in this one in a keeper league. I wouldn't have traded Prince unless I was getting Halladay or Lincecum in return. Prince is going to keep putting up monster numbers for another 10 years. You will come to regret this trade, sorry but that is just the way I see and most others will too.

If you're so sure you won the trade then why are you even asking?
Carlos Lee is slowing down. I would'nt be so sure of that stat line if I were you.
And if I were to deal Fielder in a keeper league I'd expect a Lincecum, Halladay, Grienke type pitcher and I'm still not so sure I'd do it. An aging 6th rounder plus a 7th round pitcher do not equal Prince Fielder.
