i want to pick up another pitcher, and i'm wondering if hawpe is droppable. i like rivera better on my bench than hawpe, and the only reason i'm hesistant, is because i feel like if i drop him, he might get nabbed up by another owner, but i also don't feel like he has a lot of trade value.
here are the top FA pitchers: hiroki kiroda ben sheets aaron harang justin duchscherer ryan-rowland smith dice-k jarrod washburn kyle loshe john maine joel pinerio
The only guys I think worth dropping him for might be Sheets or Harang ... I think you may be better off waiting for him to get hot during the season and shipping him off. But I don't think dropping him for Sheets is a total crime.
Meh. I'd actually feel more comfortable dropping Penny for Sheets than Hawpe. I have been BURNED badly by Harang, and I know people like to project him as a nice bounce-back candidate, but honestly back-to-back 14+ loss seasons and his terrible WHIP is too much of a deterrent for me to chase his K potential. I also don't like Penny that much, he was decent in spacious Dodgers stadium but even there he broke down in the second half every year... Penny also was never a big K guy, so there's not too much upside.
Hawpe can be a streaky hitter, but when he's on he can carry your team for weeks at a time. He's absolutely worth a roster spot, and I like the way your lineup looks with him (you can switch out Bourn/Borbon for Hawpe when you need power more than speed).
but that's the thing, i don't really need the power, obviously with dunn, holliday, and prince. the question is whether or not hawpe is tradable? because if he's not tradable, then i might as well drop him and open a roster spot for a gamble on a sp
