My team in an 18 player league!!!

Postby nybsbl04 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:26 am

Guys,

Im in a Yahoo H2H league with the stats:

Hitting: R, RBI, HR, SB, OPS, AVG, Hits
Pitching: IP, W, L, K, SV, ERA, WHIP

C: Pierzynski
1B: Carlos Pena
2B: Brandon Phillips
3B: Cantu
SS: Tulowitzki
OF: Nelson Cruz, Rios, WIllingham
Util: Conor Jackson

SP: King Felix
SP: Nolasco
SP: Kazmir
SP: Homer Bailey
SP: Oliver Perez
SP: Aroldis Chapman
RP: Jose Valverde
RP: Brandon Lyon

It was slim pickings from the 6th round on. And with 17 other players, I thought I did fairly well and have a balanced team.

Thoughts on the draft??

I've never played an 18-team league, but based on what I see, it turned out well.

You have some big hackers in Pena, Cantu, Cruz who don't hit for much average, which unfortunately lowers their overall OPS. So, the only thing is to look for another .300 hitter as the only one who will get you hits is Tulo. For an 18-team league, your starting pitching turned out well. Although having Bailey, Perez and Chapman would make me nervous. Two gambles would be ok, but three is probably unrealistic.

Overall. Just have to hope that Rios picks it up in Chicago (avg and steals).

Help please:

Hi, I'm Troy McClure! You might remember me from such nature films as "Earwigs: Ewwww" and "Man vs. Nature: The Road to Victory."

My strategy was to get some fringe players, especially ones in the later rounds who had an off-year due to injury, etc and hope they come back from the dead. So to speak...

Anyone else??

I played in a 20 team last year, and will be doing so again this year. The best advice that I can give to you is WATCH THE WAIVER WIRE. Last year several guys came out of nowhere, but in a league this huge a lot of those "nowhere" guys like Aaron Hill, Panda, etc are already taken. Last year I scored huge with Coghlan, while other teams scored big with guys like Zobrist. When 450-500 players are already gone, it really is difficult to make your team much better. Also don't be afraid to pawn off those closers as saves are a category people seem to think will win it for them. Last year a guy gave me Asdrubal Cabrera and Nick Swisher for JP Howell. Both Swish and Cabrera helped me get to the final.:) I wish you luck, these leagues are a ton of fun.
