FIRST YEAR in ROTO..Any difference?

Postby CineMamet » Sun Mar 21, 2010 10:40 pm

We've done H2H, but trying out rotisserie this year.
Yahoo 10 teams. Funky settings in which we don't have any offensive bench. Only 2 bench spots allowed for pitchers.

Offensive categories:
HR, RBI, BB, H, AVG, R
Pitching:
W, L, ERA, WHIP, K, S

I drafted 4th. I'll also put the round in which I drafted them. How did I do? Did I reach for Reynolds? Some draft boards, I've seen him go in top 12, so I went with him.

C - AJ Pierzynski (22)
1B - Joey Votto (5)
2B - Robinson Cano (8)
3B - Mark Reynolds (2)

OF - Justin Upton (4)
OF - Shin-Soo Choo (10)
UT - Carlos Pena (9)

great line up! of, ir, and sp is great.
your util players seem fine, they have low averages but thats fine with your better players pulling it up.

since your league is counting walks, i'd look into getting some patient lead off hitters to bring up that total

Teams pretty solid ;-D i think you MAY have reached on Reynolds but if he pulls of big numbers then maybe you didnt waste your pick, Offense looks pretty good. I really like the Carlos Pena pick up but im a little bit of a Pena Homer...well anyways your picthing is alright...Lester and Beckett are nice picks, but im not sure if Lester will do better then beckett...but since you have most of Boston's rotation you should do well if Boston does well you should too.

I think you may have taken Reynolds a round early..but you more than made up for that getting Cano 8th round so I wouldn't sweat it if you are fine with who you have. Overall looks solid.

The one difference between H2H and ROTO is that consistency isn't really a big deal. In H2H, if a guy hits 3 HR in one week, and none the next...he's only helping you 50% of the time. Whereas in ROTO, it's still 3 HR. Make sense?

As for your team - I like it, and I'm a believer in Reynolds. So I don't think that was a reach - depending on who else was available. I would look into RP though - all of your closers are guys who could be injury risks, but solid talents. Overall, you should do well.

reynolds is better in roto then h2h also because of his lack of consistency so i dont think you reached for reynolds if he puts up stats somewhat near last year

Thanks for the look...

I do think you reached a bit for Reynolds as well. Although I do like him very much this year, I think a second round pick in a 10 man league was pretty high. He's not a bad player to reach for since he will most likely give you a boat load of homers.

With the Reynolds stretch aside, your line-up looks great. Stacked with youth and talent. Many are huge on J. Upton this year. I am a touch leary after his big contract. Votto should continue to improve this year and I see big things in store for him as long as he doesn't go "Dontrell Willis" on you :)

Rotation is stacked as well with solid starters and relievers. I do notice you have 3 of 5 Boston starters. I hope Wagner has something in the tank for you but with Happ having RP eligibility you should be fine.

Really like your team, your OF is very strong and getting Cano that late was really nice. I don't see any real weakness.

Strange format that you have no bench though.
