Keepers due today - which 2 - Fielder , Reynolds , Mauer

Postby Moss84 » Sun Mar 21, 2010 11:21 am

12 team H2h Mixed League
$1000 cap and draft 24 players
Scoring:
Hitters - 1 pt per Hit, run, rbi, sb, bb, hbp. 2B= 2 pts, 3B=3pts, HR=4 pts

Starters - 1 at each IF position, 3 OFs, and a DH (any position) AND 5 Starting Pitchers

Which 2 hitters should I Keep ??? I'LL ANSWER YOURS.
Fielder is in 3rd year as keeper and will go up $25 in 2011 - Reynolds and mauer would be first year keepers and go up $10 each of 1st 3 years and $25 in 4th year

Keeper Options:
C: Mauer ($100) -- (579 pts. in 2009 -- next highest was V-mart at 557, McCann-452)
-- most good catchers are good values and will be kept - none over $60.
Mauer missed first month of 2010 so pts would be about 100 more but not sure how née stadium will play
1B: Fielder ($105) -- (Pujols-773 pts., Fielder-721 pts., Howard-687pts., Tex-664pts)
Pujols, Howard, Miguel Cabrera are Keepers.
Most expensive 2009 1Bs: Berkman went for $195 and Texiera for $180 in auction last year.

3b: Reynolds ($35) - very cheap and 1b eligible - probably regress from 2009 but great value.
#1 3rd baseman in 2009 with 619 pts. followed by Zimmerman - 612 pts, Longoria-609 pts. Longoria and Zimmerman are 2010 Keepers.

I like the idea of actually keeping reynolds and one stud.

To me, especially keeper style capped leagues, value is often very underrated. Sure, Reynolds will probably not post identical numbers to his 2009 campaign this year, but I think selecting him as a keeper opens the door for help in other areas of need.

The next choice, to me, is mauer. This is an obvious choice I feel like. He's the best catcher in the game, at least for now. Not to mention their are plenty of serviceable first basemen.

There are a ton of mashers at 1B, so pick worst case....would you rather have Mauer, Fielder, and Casey Blake....Mauer, Reyonlds, and Carlos Pena....or Ianetta, Reynolds, and Fielder? I like overpaying for Mauer and a bargain for Reyonlds...then having your option of getting a 3B or 1B, since Reynolds is dual....keeps you flexible.
