Keepers - need 2 - Fielder , Mauer , Reynolds

Postby Moss84 » Fri Mar 19, 2010 10:58 am

12 team H2h Mixed League
$1000 cap and draft 24 players
Scoring:
Hitters - 1 pt per Hit, run, rbi, sb, bb, hbp. 2B= 2 pts, 3B=3pts, HR=4 pts

Starters - 1 at each IF position, 3 OFs, and a DH (any position) AND 5 Starting Pitchers

Which 2 hitters should I Keep ??? I'LL ANSWER YOURS.
Fielder is in 3rd year as keeper and will go up $25 in 2011 - Reynolds and mauer would be first year keepers and go up $10 each of 1st 3 years and $25 in 4th year

Keeper Options:
C: Mauer ($100) -- (579 pts. in 2009 -- next highest was V-mart at 557, McCann-452)
-- most good catchers are good values and will be kept - none over $60.
Mauer missed first month of 2010 so pts would be about 100 more but not sure how née stadium will play
1B: Fielder ($105) -- (Pujols-773 pts., Fielder-721 pts., Howard-687pts., Tex-664pts)
Pujols, Howard, Miguel Cabrera are Keepers.
Most expensive 2009 1Bs: Berkman went for $195 and Texiera for $180 in auction last year.

3b: Reynolds ($35) - very cheap and 1b eligible - probably regress from 2009 but great value.
#1 3rd baseman in 2009 with 619 pts. followed by Zimmerman - 612 pts, Longoria-609 pts. Longoria and Zimmerman are 2010 Keepers.

Having a strong C can make a huge difference in fantasy - especially if the difference between the next tier is significant. Suzuki wouldn't be a bad backup plan, although he's probably not going to be the deal he used to be.

I'd go with Mauer and Reynolds. If only Pujols, Howard and Cabrera are kept at 1B there should be lots of 1B to go around. You'll have $105 + money saved at 3B to get a big boy. Butler may be a good bargain, or at least someone who might outperform what you pay for him.

Any advice on my question appreciated
