I'm in a bit of a dilema and I'm hoping to get a discussion on this topic going. I'm in the 1st-year of a 6x6 (OPS) 12-team H2H keeper league(keep up to 5 to start draft) and have the 1st overall pick at the draft. According to the league rules, we are allowed to keep the same player for up to 3 years before that keeper will automatically return to the FA pool if not dealt before the keepers must be set. Therefore, not only am I looking for the player with the most value over the next three years, but am looking for the player who will perform higher for years 2013-2015 since I will be looking to deal them in their final contract year for another top keeper, hopefully another top 3 player for those years. According to this scenario, of who will be the better player for the next 6 years, I'm looking at Hanley as my first pick.
But, as another option, is Pujols's value this year so much higher than Hanley's that I should I select Pujols at the draft and try to deal him sometime this year or next offseason when I will still be able to get maximum keeper value for him? I think I might even be able to get some sort of deal for Hanley + an upgrade in a second keeper If I deal him in the near future, but if I hold onto Pujols too long, I fear his keeper value will drop below Hanley.
Thanks for your thoughts on strategy and I look forward to the discussion on this topic. Of course, I will be happy to help in return. Leave a link!
I still think you need to go with Pujols first. I am a Hanley owner but I would draft Pujols. He will still be the best player for at least the next five years.
Special thanks to GiantsFan14 for the awesome sig.
for 3yrs, get Pujols for sure. I wouldn't knock you for taking Hanley, but I have to go with Pujols. If we're talking like 5+yrs, then I think I'd change my decision to HanRam
