Draft direction

Postby oldmanbean » Wed Mar 17, 2010 12:07 am

we are a 12 team league, straight points, 15 hitters (2 at each position, 4 OF and 1 EH) 10 pitchers. We have a 25 round draft with decreasing costs, starts at $25 and goes down to $2. $200 roster, I currently have a $125 payroll.

Given my team below, where do I place my first pick?? I do not like to pick earlier than the 3rd round. Some of the top players available at positions are:

OF - Sizemore, Manny and Quentin
1B - Pena, D Lee, L Berkman
2B - Uggla
3B - Wright

P - Bills, Jered weaver, Burnett, Shields, Floyd, Oswalt, Baker, Zambrano

These are based on CBS projections.

Originally I was thinking SIzemore to give me a #1 OF, but now I heard rumors that he may go in round 1. Do I sacrifice a top OF to build up my pitching??

Thanks

C J Posada 5
1B M Cabrera 24
2B B Roberts 19
3B R Zimmerman 8
SS E Andrus 5, J Rollins 16
OF H Pence 10, N Swisher 4
P H Bell 4, J Hellickson 5, C Lee 15, A Wainwright 10

Your pitching looks decent to start. I would go with the OF bat. If you can get Sizemore do it but I also think Quentin will be solid this year and you will get him much cheaper.

But how much is Sizemore worth?? His keeper price was $21 and obviously his owner did not think he was worth it. Second round costs $23, so to me it makes no sense, but I know 2 guys that pick after me that will take him. So, would you take him 2nd round or hope he drops to 3rd ($20)?

Quentin was $15 last year, which is 5th round price.

Thanks for the reply
