I have the 9th pick in a 10 team roto league. I plan on leaving rounds 1 and 2 with Ryan Howard and David Wright. If I do that, who should I grab at 29 and 32?
Options 1. Cano/Pedroia/Phillips/Roberts - Leaning towards Cano, because the average would help balance out Howard. Pedroia brings some average to the table too, though. Phillips and Roberts bring a lot of their value with their legs, and I feel like I can replace steals later in the draft.
2. CC/Greinke/Haren/Lester/Verlander - There is a very good chance that CC, Greinke and Haren will all be gone by 29 or 32, but Verlander and Lester will most likely still be around.
3. Fill CI/UTIL really early and grab Zimmerman or Votto? Not a huge fan of this because it hurts my flexibility later in the draft.
Any other ideas? Leave a link, I'll do my best to help.
I feel that 29/32 is too early for Cano. His average is nice, but you may be able to grab him at the next turn. Pedroia, however, is a solid pick their and if he is gone, Phillips if you are worried about losing out on a servicable 2B. I'm personally staying away from Roberts, possible bad back and a 10 steal drop two years in a row. If CC, Grienke or Haren are available, take one of those guys. Once again 29/32 for Verlander or Lester isn't going to kill you, it just isn't great value. I like Votto and Zimmerman. Ideally, and realistically, a Haren/Pedroia turn would be nice for you.
Well Pedroia and Haren both have an ADP of 32.6 (30/31) right now, which in a vacuum could work or me. However, I'm sure that everything that can go wrong will go wrong. I think I will go for Haren at 29, and then if Pedroia is around at 32 I would take him there. If not, I'd debate taking Phillips there but I'm not in love with that pick.
So my ideal scenario would be Haren/Pedroia, I agree with you there, but I just want to start drawing up the doomsday scenarios as well.
The odds are good you'll get either of the 2B in question. I'd go with Pedroia, Cano, or Phillips in that order. Roberts' back woes are a bit of a worry as of this moment to consider drafting him.
If either Zimmerman or Votto is there with the 3rd pick, I'd snatch either one and if you see Pedroia/Cano/Phillips there as well, I'd grab either one at the turn.
Instead of Verlander/Lester, if Lind is there, he's a no-brainer IMO, as he fits your team really well with Howard there. If you get one of Pedroia/Cano/Jeter plus Lind, your team is really looking sharp to begin with.
Thanks for the response, Artful Dodger. My train of thought right now is going to be snag CC/Haren/Greinke if they are still around at 29 and a 2B at 32. If miss an ace, then I will I will land a 2B at 29 and Lind at 32.
Thoughts?
EDIT Hm, after mocking I kinda wanna start Howard/Wright/Pedroia/Lind then see if Lester or Verlander makes it back to me, after all I am only playing in a 10 teamer.
I'd grab Zimmerman or Votto if they are there because they're going to be great this year to me. If you really want to avoid that, Pedroia and Greinke would be a nice pickup in those spots.
Which of Votto/Zimmerman would you take? And if you took one of them there, where would you look from there at round 3? Hope Pedroia/Cano is still there? If not, maybe reach a little for Phillips? Or.. Grandy/Upton?
I think you go with Votto there, I think the Nats got a career year out of Zimmerman last year. I think Greinke is a stretch there, there are so many good front line pitchers you can get later. Votto is a stud and we have yet to see a full season of him and he is at the perfect age for a career year.
