minor leaguer question

Postby brockwilliams » Tue Mar 16, 2010 1:08 am

Anyone know of a site that updates spring training transactions. I need a a site that is up-to-date and that can tell me if a player is still with the the team. I know ESPN,CBS and the other main ones but they aren't always as current as they should be. We don't allow for minor leaguers to be draft as part of the main team so its important to know for sure who's up and who is sent down. thx.

Any other site you check is just going to be getting their information from the site you got from bigmck.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.

that's not true, Rototimes reported that MLB.com said Trevor Bell was sent yet it doesn't show it in their own transactions.

"Trevor Bell was among the 17 Angels re-assigned by the Angels to minor league camp, according to MLB.com."

I'm looking for a consistent site that list them. You would think that if a site reported it they would also report it in their own transactions.

03/16/10 OF Angel Castillo assigned to Los Angeles Angels.
RHP Juan Mateo assigned to Los Angeles Angels.
RHP David Carpenter assigned to Los Angeles Angels.

03/15/10 RHP Jon Bachanov assigned to Los Angeles Angels.
RF Julio Perez assigned to Los Angeles Angels.

03/12/10 RHP Michael Kenney assigned to Los Angeles Angels.
RHP Nick Pugliese assigned to Los Angeles Angels.

03/04/10 1B Robb Quinlan assigned to Los Angeles Angels.

You will not find ONE site that has every transaction. They all lack. Our league can not pickup a player unless he is actived to the Majors. We have four sites we use as our Official Sites. If the player shows in one site he qualifies. You can stop your looking for the that one site, it doesn't exist.

I think that my call would depend on how you handle it when a player is sent to the minors (not including rehab assignments) during the season.

Say a guy struggles and is sent to the minors in June. What happens?

Also, say a guy gets released. What happens to him?

Assuming in both situations that they may remain on a team's roster, I would say to just simplify and allow any player that is on the current active roster to be drafted or otherwise obtained. Each MLB team has an official website where you will find their current roster. Anyone on the 40-man that is not noted otherwise should be considered on the current active roster.

Set a cutoff date for the player pool to be frozen before the draft. Say 9pm 2 days prior to draft time. Use the official team site's rosters at that time to determine player eligibility. The league manager may need to open each team page and copy/paste their rosters into a document so you have a definite record of what the rosters were at freeze time.
