Strasburg deal

Postby HOOTIE » Sun Mar 14, 2010 1:23 am

Keeper league, 104 kept.

Which side do you like?

Strasburg and Billy Butler or

Miguel Cabrera and a 3rd round pick, 20th of draft, 124th player overall. Probably in the range of a Nolasco or Cargo type.

I would definitely go the M-Cab/Nolasco-ish route. Stud hitter and solid enough pitcher/whatever you want.

help?

Yup, I'd take M-Cab in a keeper still, as he's definitely the safest bet. The idea that you can get Nolasco or CarGo makes it a slam dunk.

I like this a lot. Cabrera's body type and age aren't great (not bad, but not great), and he's battled addiction this year. And he's generally a little overrated now that he's only 1B.

But Strasburg's a wonderful sell high, and a maybe first round hitter is more than enough.

Think about all of the SP you would currently deal for Miggy: likely all but Lince, and 75% of posters here would do that, too. Unless Strasburg is some sort of Stat-borg from the future, sent back to terrorize us Terminator style in ways we've never seen, he's no better than the creme-de-la-creme now.

Yes, of course.

What I said still applies: in a keeper, would you take any single pitcher over Cabrera? 75% of the guys here would correctly say no, inclusive of rejecting Lincecum for Cabrera, too.

Strasburg would need to dominate in ways hitherto unseen to blow this for you, and we play percentages, here, in fantasy sports, no? You can't predict or expect the unprecedented.

I even prefer Porcello to Butler (I'm in the minority there, I'm sure); I think you win both ends of the deal.

I don't see how you could turn down the miggy side. Not only is he still getting better, he's among the safest fantasy players you can have. What you see is what you get. Not to mention you could get rid of Strasburg before he becomes labeled a bust ;-D
