Josh Hamilton Dynasty Trade WHIR

Postby curl » Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:46 pm

I'm in a deep 20 team, 25 keeper head to head dynasty league. 6x6 with OPS and holds as the two extra categories.

Was offered my:

Michael Brantley
Conor Jackson
John Danks
24th overall pick

for his:

Josh Hamilton
Seth Smith
30th overall pick

So is Josh Hamilton worth this much? I've got an extra SP right now because I added Jeremy Guthrie to replace Angel Guzman from my keeper list due to his recent injury. And, I was a playoff team last year, so if Hamilton can manage anything like that 2008 season I could be in pretty good shape. But obviously there's substantial risk with him. So, what do you think?

My roster at this point:

C Joe Mauer
1b Chris Davis
2b Felipe Lopez
3b Pablo Sandoval
ss Yunel Escobar
of Nelson Cruz
of Matt LaPorta
of Jayson Werth
util Brandon Wood
util Mike Cameron
bench Lars Anderson
bench Conor Jackson
bench Michael Brantley

SP (with 11 starts max a week):

John Danks
Jeremy Bonderman
Jon Lester
Ricky Nolasco
Jeff Niemann
Kevin Correia
Francisco Liriano
Jeremy Guthrie

RP:

Heath Bell
David Aardsma
Jose Valverde
Darren O'Day

If you trade Danks, your SP would for sure take a hit since you would then really only have Lester and Nolasco. Brantley should be a solid source of steals. I am not a big C.Jackson fan, however. Hamilton will always be an injury risk, but he'll hit HR when he's healthy and he's in a pretty good lineup. I would really hesitate to pull the trigger because it would hurt your pitching. Could you try taking Danks out of the deal and put in someone like Niemann, Wood, or one of the closers?

I'd rather gamble on the elite upside of Hamilton, no one else there has that. Lester and Nolasco is a great 1-2 for that size of a league, your pitching will survive without Danks.

I like Brantley and think he could develop into a solid 5 cat guy...Hamilton's injury concerns and past drug use could end up limiting him long term. I'd try doing the deal w/out Brantley.

Little help my way.

You have to take a chance on Hamilton as you're getting him for relatively cheap. In a 20-teamer, I love Lester and Nolasco as a 1-2 and whatever you get out of Liriano is gravy.

If you can do this without Brantley then I would but if not I think I would still go with it. You are taking a risk but Danks is far from a sure thing himself nor is Brantley. Go with Hamiltons upside.
