Drafting Heyward

Postby Surfs up » Wed Mar 10, 2010 11:19 am

I asked you guys about taking Halladay or Crawford with my 1st pick ( 2nd overall ) in a keeper league. Now I want to know about the second round. I have the 3rd and 4th picks in the second round.
My keepers are
Pujolos
Reyes
Miggy cabrera
Utley
Holliday
Wright
Gallardo
Josh Johnson
Cliff Lee
And chances are good I'm going to take Halladay with my first pick.
I'm thinking of taking Heyward with a second round pick. I DON"T have a THIRD round pick. And I know my league mates know about him.Two years ago Longoria was taken in the fourth rd.So was Hanson last year.
Other players avalible just to name the top 12 or so.
Hunter
Wandy
Dunn
Quentin
McClouth
Nolcaso
Kershaw
Kendrick
Alexi Ramirez
Bourn
Morgan
S. Baker
Shields
Damon
What would you do? Seems like his value has shot up and in a redraft drafting him this high isn't a stretch. Would you take one of these other players first? I can give you more players avalible I just didn't want to make this tread too long.

Heyward looks like a great pick in your second round. Especially in a keeper league. Just hope that he falls to you because the top 12 look a bit "meh" so to speak. I buying the hype on Heyward, he looks like the real deal and should be a great keeper going forward. Nice keepers btw ;-D

I am thinking about getting him in the first round because the keepers available don't wow me enough. I would say getting him in the third would be a definite especially with the lack of stud FA you have available.

Really nice keepers. I wish.

I don't have a third round pick. But I messed up my post by not including the players that will be first round picks. This might change things
Hanley will be taken with the first pick
Halladay
Kinslar I can't take him because I made a gentlemans agreement not to pick him with the owner of the third pick. Long story . Won't bore you with details
Haren
Crawford
Sabathia
Hamels
Papelbon
Ad. Gonzalez
Zimmerman
McCann
Br. Phillips
I can see every one of those guys going in the first round. That would leave only two picks ahead of me in the second rd and I doubt they would take Heyward that early.I'm even leaning toward taking Heyward and Strasburg back to back in the second rd. If SS starts in the minors I can reserve him and replace him at the end of the draft. We can keep one minor leaguer.
As I said I don't have a third rs pick but I do have a fourth , fifth and two sixth rd picks. My fifth rd pick backs up to my first sixth rd pick.
We draft sixteen rds.

Halladay is the easy choice over Kinsler IMO. Doc is the best pitcher in baseball and will be even better in the weaker NL. As for Heyward take him with your 2nd pick, I'm going to try and grab him in my draft if he is still there in the 1st round - but we keep 12 and I have a pretty solid team heading into this year so reaching then isn't that big of a deal for me.

Spoken like a Blue Jay fan that isn't pissed off about Halladay not being in Toronto.
I have two second round picks back to back. Would you take a shot at Strausburg with the second of the two? Or would you go another hitter? Kershaw, Porcello, Dempster, Shields Baker and Owsalt should also be there.
No third round pick.

Yeah I'm still a Jays fan and hate that they HAD to deal Doc but they got about as good as value as they were going to get in these economic times.

As for your picks in the 2nd round if your going Heyward with the first one I would go with a more proven player like Kershaw or Porcello (in that order) or the best 2B or OF at the time over Strasburg.
