Draft help, IP as category

Postby theplayer11 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 7:26 pm

ROTO...IP is 6th pitcher category. I usually go hitters in rounds 1-5, but with this set up, I'm figuring on going hitters even further into the draft. 6 starters, 3 relievers, 3 bench spots for pitchers. 2 waiver runs a week, streaming the last 3 pitchers seems like the way to go. This should keep me strong in IP, wins and K's. The only thing I'm worried about is..what if everyone else does the same thing...streams ...but also draft pitchers in earlier rounds. They would have an even better advantage in IP, wins and K's as they will have better starters drafted earlier...along with streaming the last 3 pitchers. How would you guys handle the draft with IP as a category?

H2H or roto? In H2H, you can make up for IP easily by either playing the spot start matchups or stream if you're really behind in ERA/WHIP.

At any rate, you want SP who will likely throw 200 innings plus, among the other factors you're likely to weigh when drafting pitchers (i.e. K/BB, FIP/xFIP). Guys like Lincecum, Halladay, and Felix are a bit more valuable in this regard, but you also want to pay attention to pitchers in the later rounds who are likely to eat innings and do so effectively. Ubaldo Jimenez and Cliff Lee are prime examples and Matt Garza another later on in the draft.
