Not that excited about the deal myself and in fact, I believe Hamels will outperform Johan based on their current value. I still like Johan by a smidge, but the upside bit over Hamels is exaggerated.

- Hamels was very unlucky last year. His skills aren't in question. Santana, however, is looking like he's on the wrong side of that curve.
- Better defense and run support in Philly.
- Santana is going to be expected to carry his team much more than Hamels. With Halladay pitching ahead of him, Hamels will be under less pressure.
At first glance, I thought "no-brainer" Johan too, but I'm kind of agreeing with this analysis too. I think in terms of upside, Hamels definitely has more of it this year... in getting Johan, what you're just hoping for is that he can simply revert back to ace self and hold value. I would not be at all surprised if Johan finishes the season worse than Hamels, and I too think this will most likely be a wash.
