Just got done listening to a FantasyPros911 podcast, and they brought up a pretty interesting thing that I hadn't considered before...
They mentioned Corey Hart and Nate McLouth as two guys who were diagnosed with vision problems during the off-season, who may be capable of hitting better than their poor numbers would indicate last year.
I've heard that Pablo Sandoval will be wearing goggles this year as well (although I don't know how much better he could hit than last year).
Both McLouth and Hart are easily available for a #4 or #5 OF, more than capable of holding down a bench spot and breaking into your starting lineup at some point.
Anybody else out there who's going to be sporting specs this year, who could post better numbers than last year?
I remember Brian Roberts going on a crazy HR binge in the first half of...06/07?...after he changed to orange contact lenses. Every case is different but it would be nice to see some stats of how players performed before and after getting goggles/lenses.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!
i dont know of anyone else who will be using glasses or will have had surgery. something like that is easy to get attention, but that doesnt mean it is a sure thing to improve ones play. one thing to help is to know who has allready done this in the past? maybe if someone knows a list of players who have had this done? if all of them had success the following season i would be more confident, but lets say a few players had this done and then did not have success then i would not be as confident. it sounds good, doing something to improve ones vision. it also sounds good to build up muscle in the offseason to hit more HR, but that hasnt worked for everyone who has done that.
Just got done watching the Brewers/Mariners spring training game. Brewers TV guy Brian Anderson mentioned a conversation that Fielder had with Hart, regarding how Hart has never been able to pick up the spin of a slider due to his vision, that he's never seen the so-called "dot" that hitters talk about seeing caused by the spinning seams. I thought that was interesting. Will it help to wear the goggles? I don't know, I heard the same song and dance about Bill Hall a year or two back when he got Lasik, and it certainly didn't do squat for him. It certainly couldn't hurt though, so who knows?

Granderson is wearing contact lenses this year for the first time in his career.
