Keeping 8! WHIR

Postby CasEjonz » Mon Mar 08, 2010 2:49 pm

Our 10 team AL only league is expanding back to 12, and with that we have to expose our teams for expansion. We can protect 8 players and will lose 2.
This league is AL only Roto style 5x5 (Runs, HRs, SB-CS, RBI, AVG, Wins, Ks, ERA, Whip, Saves) with a 24 man roster. Players have 3 yr contracts. This is the rock hard keepers I intend on keeping...
C: Matt Weiters $10
SS Elvis Andrus $9
3B Evan Longoria $10
OF Shin Shoo Choo $9
P Brett Anderson $2

Bubble: (and reason for being on the bubble)
OF Josh Hamilton $14 (last year of his contract and has injury bug)
OF Matt Laporta $10 (glut of players that play his position)
2B Jose Lopez $15 (lot of 2B in draft and is about at value)
P Clay Buchholz $10 (trade bait by mid season and could leave the AL)
P Nefatali Feliz $10 (No defined role, but could end up closing!!)
P Matt Thornton $3 (Potential closer and cheap but still no guarantee role)
then a bunch of flotsum jetsum that is not a big deal. Once the 2 players are lost, we can still protect players for the upcoming draft and those bubble guys will probably be on my team. The thing is trying to reserve the last 2 spots. I am leaning to Hamilton and Feliz but would love to hear others opinions. Will be happy to help in return, just leave a link.
Thanks

I get to keep 2 more

I would say Lopez and either hamilton or Laporta. Lopez because he is a solid choice on a Seattle team that I think will make a move this season. And i am honestly not sure where to go with the last guy, I hate to say hamilton, but maybe he will get hot and you could trade him later on.

I'm intrigued by Buchholz's upside and protecting him would mean that you could monitor him through the rest of the spring. If he sticks in the Red Sox roatation he's probably worth keeping.

For the other I would keep Lopez I suppose. Since it is AL-only it might be worth the $15 rather than relying on Mark Ellis or someone similar as your starter!

I could see the argument for keeping Hamilton, but you'd probably have to factor in the cost of a good 4th OF to make up for the time he loses on the sidelines. I think Buchholz is closer to being a contributor than Feliz, who the Rangers should still be trying to groom as a starter rather than a closer.

Good luck! Help with mine? viewtopic.php?t=402453

Gotta go with Lopez and Feliz. In a league specific format, OF is much less of a demand IMO and Feliz could be a STUD in whatever role he's going to be in. As a White Sox fan, I can assure you that Thornton will not be closing, Ozzie LOVES Jenks.

Hey, thanks for the help on mine...

I'm not much of an auction guy myself, but here I'd go with Lopez for sure, and pretty much flip a coin between Buchholz and Feliz.

I would say Lopez in an AL only league. And flip a coin between Buchholz and Feliz. If Buchholz makes rotation when breaking camp, then he has more value than Feliz at the start. However, Feliz will eventually have dual eligibility and has electric stuff. He could be a monster as a starter in the 2nd half.

Appreciate the help, I am gonna try to flip Hamilton for Asdrubel Cabrera (5) and lock up my SS position, then I will have to figure that Buchholz and Laporta might be the goners then.
Any more feedback is appreciated.
