First set of keepers

Postby JoeMoney19 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 12:31 pm

First offseason of a keeper league I'm in with a few buddies. H2H 12-team league with standard categories:
Hitting - R HR RBI K SB AVG OPS
Pitching - K W L SV ERA WHIP K/9

The way it's set up is that you sacrifice a draft pick for each keeper (i.e., if I keep 6 players I miss the first 6 rounds of the draft)

Right now my keepers are:

C - AJ Pierzynski
1B - Miguel Cabrera
2B - Chase Utley
3B - David Wright
SS - Stephen Drew
LF - Carlos Quentin
CF - Matt Kemp
RF - [ ]
UT - Grady Sizemore
UT - Adam LaRoche
B - Paul Konerko
B - Lastings Milledge

SP - Tommy Hanson
SP - Ubaldo Jimenez
SP - Scott Baker
RP - Rafael Soriano
RP - Carlos Marmol
P - Gavin Floyd
B - Ervin Santana

Any thoughts on tweaking my plan here? My keeper select deadline is coming up pretty soon so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That's a strong team! I would not keep either of your pitchers or Carlos Quinton, I don't have any of those three projected to go in the first 6 rounds of a 12 team league, you could probably pick them up later if you wanted.

I think I would drop Quinton and Ubaldo. The rest look great and I wouldn't want to risk losing Hanson.

As the others said, you can afford to drop Quentin and Jimenez is a nice young pitcher but not worth protecting for a #6 pick. Hanson is an either or hold. If you feel strongly that he will go bananas this season go ahead, and if you look the other teams try to project who might be kept and then make the decision on Tommy.

I would keep all 8 that you have highlighted.

I would either keep all 8, or only throw back Quentin. I think Jiminez is a top-20 SP this year.

If Quentin is healthy, he could put up top 10 numbers...why does everyone think he's not worth holding? He just had a two homer game in ST. Granted it IS the spring, but that is a sign of his power having returned...

I'm also curious why people are so down on Quentin. I realize he's an injury risk but it seems like he'll be the DH periodically to keep him healthy. I like his upside a lot.

Ubaldo I agree is a fringe keeper but I owned him throughout last year and his 3.08 ERA post-April really helped my team. I like him a lot heading into this season.

;-D

Drew is worth a thought but Round 9 is not a value so pass on him there.
