Hey all! I just had my money league draft last night but it didn't turn out so well. I unfortunately had to miss it because 1) it started at 1:30 am local time (I was the only one not drafting in the United States) and 2) because I am very sick. This is the team that I was autopicked after taking over for an exiting manager in a 12 team keeper.
Firstly, I was looking to acquire some power bats to my lineup because it is pretty pathetic. I was really interested in Votto because I have Davis at 1st, along with a power OF in either Lind or Cruz. He needs speed so I was thinking about offering him a combo of Davis, Span, Ellsbury or Ichiro. Would that be too much for Votto and Lind. Would Ellsbury and Span or Davis be sufficient? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for help on mine, I'll see what I can come up with. Take what I say here with a grain of salt, I'm the kind of guy who likes to put a lot of pressure on people trying to trade with me, so I'm not the easiest guy to trade with (and probably not the best guy to ask about trying to set up a fair trade).
If he's as short on speed as he seems, he might be willing to do a Votto/Lind for Ellsbury/Span. The only thing with that is it means he'd have to be stuck with Garrett Jones as his starting 1B, and I don't know if he'd be all that comfortable with that. I don't think your completely devoid of power, Davis/Utley/Sizemore all seem capable of 30 homers, but it does look like you've got plenty of speed to spare. I'd see what you can get for Davis, but after his 2009, you probably won't get all that much out of him.
If you're intent on trying to get two guys from him, I'd try and see if I could pry Votto and Lind from him. Both those guys seem like they're in for .300 seasons, and with Davis, Headley and some other guys on your team, you might be able to use a boost in AVG too.
I would see if you could just do a simple Ellsbury for Lind straight up. Ellsbury gives him the speed he needs and Lind gives you the power you crave.
I actually think Davis is going to have a pretty good year so you might not need Votto. He did pretty well after he got sent down and corrected his swing. Plus, he has Smoak breathing down his neck, so either that will give him extra incentive to produce or the stress will get to him, but I think the former is more likely.
May also suggest the overpaying method to acquire the key pieces of your teams future. I understand we all desire to be competitive, but sometimes it pays dividends in the long run to throw in a few of those marginal keepers, players on the downside.
I took over a team similiar to yours in 06 or 07.
I promptly traded: Beltran, Atkins, Corey Hart, Dan Uggla for Arod Miguel Tejada & Vlad for Jose Reyes.
Today these deals seem loop-sided the opposite they were back then. (Atkins was coming of 120RBI seasons, Tejada was still a triple crown winner, and Vlad was a monster) But today my team is much better for it, and all of those aging/borderline keepers were FA in yesterdays draft. I hope that experience proves helpful for you.
