Dynasty trade Zimmerman / Cain

Postby monty797 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 11:14 am

Would you guys do this deal?

I've been shipping for a cornerstone 3B for a long while. I've had an owner approach me looking to do a deal. The key things to know is that we play with 24 teams dynasty, with extremely deep rosters.

The key places of my team affected would be my SP rotation, and my 3B slot.

The deal looks like this I get Ryan Zimmerman I give Matt Cain and Adrian Beltre.

My pitching looks like this - Matt Cain, Scott Kazmir, Ryan Dempster, John Lackey, Chris Tillman, John Maine, Marc Ryzepcnski (sp), and James McDonald (if he gets the #5 spot). We start 5 Sp's weekly and once the lineup is set you can not swap out a pitcher unless there is an injury.

On the surface of this deal I lose out in pure points scoring if all players hit their projected numbers and injuries do not strike. Now the reason I'm thinking of going with the trade is that I like hitters much more than pitching, they are generally much more consistent week to week. I like his long term health much better than that of a pitcher as well.

What do you guys think?

I think if you do prefer hitting I would definitely make this move in a dynasty. Zimmerman has so much potential and is really coming into form. Not to mention I do think the Nationals are improving and will have a much better lineup over the next few years.

You hate to give up on Cain, but for Zimmerman I think I would do it.

strictly from a mock draft perspective your gaining a 2nd rounder for what a 7th and low round pick? thats pretty much a no brainer to me. Theres maybe 3 hot corner "locks" in the bigs for the long term Longoria/Zimm/Wright so that makes it even less a guess. Unless we have a prospect come up and perform like those three do both with the bat and glove (im not seeing one) then its a big time gain. Alveraz wont stay at 3B, best case scene is Chisenhal but he doesn't have the stick those three do so.... 3B will probably be the weakest position to fill with a stud due to supply and demand for a while.

I agree that Zimmerman has more potential. Cain definitely came into his own, but more often than not, the contributions of position players "last longer" than pitchers in a dynasty league.
