Final keeper Choo or Quentin

Postby soty » Fri Mar 05, 2010 11:31 pm

OK guys I am stuck on my last keeper and I have until tomorrow night to make a decision. In my league we keep 8 I already have 7 definite keepers in Miguel Cabrera, Ian Kinsler, Evan Longoria, Hanley Ramirez, Nick Markakis, Yovani Gallardo and Jonathan Broxton.

What I need to know is do I keep Shin-Soo Choo or Carlos Quentin as my 8th and final keeper? Every single site, rankings, adp list I have looked at has Choo ahead of Quentin. Some sites they have Choo quite a bit ahead of him too. I know that Quentin has a little more upside power wise, but he is also very injury prone which scares me a lot. Do I go with the safe potential 5 tool guy like Choo or the risk, injury prone, guy like Quentin?

12 Team - H2H - Keeper (8) - R, HR, RBI, SB, TB, AVG, W, SV, K, HLD, ERA, WHIP
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, OF(4), UTIL(2), SP(2), RP(2), P(3), BN(7), DL(3)

Leave a link and I will help you. ;-D

I prefer Choo. I know exactly what I am going to get. I am not bias.
If keeper leagues, I might reconsider some. I prefer Choo at least for now and possibly next yr.

Help me out with your voice.

It's tough but I think I'd take the given in Choo. While I don't see him having much more of a ceiling I'm going to take the 20/20+ and all around production over CQ's power and higher upside with more injury proneness.

Choo.

In a league this shallow, the military service is a red herring.

Quentin's just too injury prone to do this again. Well, he could do 2008 again, of course, but do you want to spend an 8th rounder on him when I've gotten him as late as 12th in mocks?

Thanks a lot guys I really appreciate the input. I was stuck on what to do badly? I usually have a gut feeling, but in this case I don't so I came to the Cafe to help me out. As always you guys did!

I agree that its a tough call but it appears that the majority (all but 1) see it the way I do Choo = safe and Quentin = risk. I hate to give up on a young power guy like Quentin, but that foot injury he had last year can be one that lingers and I don't see him as a high AVG guy. Basically Quentin will give HRs, RBIs and TBs whereas Choo will give me something in each category including SBs which I lost some when I dealt Reyes as part of a deal yesterday to get Ramirez.

On a side note @Johnny Tuttle I dont see how this is a shallow league? Its has 12 teams with a lot of positions to fill. Also if I do let Quentin go I just dont see any way he lasts more than 2 rounds. With his power upside I expect him to be gone in the 9th or 10th round. We shall see though. ;-)

Can I get 1 or 2 more opinions before I have to submit keepers in a few minutes? Just want to assure myself of the correct choice. Thanks.

Sorry, I spoke too quickly. Sometimes, this format breeds speed more so than care.

A 12 teamer isn't shallow; it's the keeper pool that is. With only 8 keepers per year, I could easily see your having 2-4 credible keeper candidates if the unthinkable happened to Choo some offseason (heading off to boot camp)--and cutting Quentin this year really supports that thought.

If it were 18 keepers per team, it would get deep enough in a hurry that I wouldn't want to have to scramble much to replace a keeper at a moment's notice.

No offense intended.
