Better keeper - J-Up vs. M-Cab

Postby JoeMoney19 » Sun Feb 28, 2010 8:33 pm

Standard 12-team H2H league, we keep up to 8 players each season and lose picks accordingly (i.e., if you keep 7, you lose your first 7 picks)

I've been offered M-Cab for Justin Upton and a late round pick

My keepers as of right now are:

Grady Sizemore
Matt Kemp
Justin Upton
Chase Utley
David Wright
Tommy Hanson
Ubaldo Jimenez

I like the idea of getting a pure power bat, as my keepers are largely 5-tool type players. At the same time I could see Upton blowing up and outperforming Cabrera next year, even in the power department.

Thoughts?

Another vote for taking McCab. You already have Sizemore and Kemp and don't have a 1B...sick lineup post trade:

1B: McCab
2B: Utley
3B: Wright
OF: Kemp, Sizemore
SP: Hanson, Jimenez

Heck, I'd look to flip Sizemore to get a solid SS depending on how many SS you start.

M-Cab is the steadier bet than Upton in the here and now and he's still 27. I'd go with M-Cab here too.

Definitely Miggy over J-Up. J-Up could be the #1 overall pick very soon but Miggy's been a first rounder for over 5 years now and is still young.

Dealing Sizemore for a SS is tough, Reyes is probably your only target and I'd still prefer Reyes. You can get Rollins but that's underselling Grady's upside.

It's close - Upton has some huge upside, but you've got a solid OF even without him, and could easily use MCab at 1B. I'd take it this season (ask me again next year and I may answer differently). MCab is a guaranteed 30+HR, 110+RBI, .310+ AVG guy.

As much as I like Upton, think you gotta go with Cabrera.
