New to ESPN Fantasy Baseball

Postby BuccosFan2010 » Thu Feb 25, 2010 8:32 pm

I am brand new to fantasy baseball and coming off of a championship fantasy football season so I would like to keep rolling. I have caught wind of what some popular first round picks are and am just wondering in general if pitchers or hitters are more valuable. I am in an espn league and as far as I can tell it is H2H Classic Scoring.

I always will take bats over pitching, because you can always find some good pitching later in the draft or on the wire afterward.
I also like to guys who can steal bases more than HR hitters. The idea is to find the most well-rounded players, of course, but I'll take the guy who steals 15 bases over the guy who hits 20 HR.
When it comes to drafting pitching, wait on closers. Get a good starting rotation first, and take a couple of closers late in the draft.

Good luck!

Agree with the above. Pitching is almost a crap shoot. I got Chris Carpenter in the final few rounds last year in a 12-Team league. There are always pitchers to be found in the late rounds and on waiver. You really just need to be on top of it. Don't pick up a guy after he throws a complete game, but look for guys with 4-5 quality starts in a row (>6 innings pitches, <3 runs). As for closers, its even more of a crap shoot. I don't waste my time on the Papelbons and Nathans, wait on guys in lower rounds. Again, keep a close eye on struggling closers and who there replacements would most likely be.
