Can't decide on last few keepers.

Postby DividedByZero » Wed Feb 24, 2010 5:05 pm

Hi all,

Been lurking for some time.. but I've thought myself in circles on this one and figured I'd finally sign up and ask the informed masses for advice :-D

12 team Keeper league. 6 players kept from previous year at the cost of the original draft round +1 (so a 3rd last year costs a 2nd this year). H2H league points league. 1B, 2B, SS 3B, C, 3 OF, Util, 5 SP, 2 SP.
Scoring notes:
Hitters: K = -1, BB = 0.5
Pitchers: W = 7, S = 3, L = -5, IP = 3, ER = -2, H = -1, BB = -1
(A bad outing by a pitcher can get you hammered).

Last year I had the topped ranked team but fell short in the playoffs. I had the top pitching staff but my batting was just middle of the pack (Reyes & Arm.Ram were two of my top picks). I traded away Josh Johnson for Han. Ram, so I spent most of the season rolling with Wandy, JJ, Haren, Danks & Je. Weaver --not deadly, but very-very consistent and high scoring due to low ERA and tons of IP and Ks

Here's my list of potential keepers. I have two different approaches I can't decide on, so was curious for feedback.
Format is "name (cost) [notes & my thoughts]"

Han. Ram (1st+20th)
Haren (1st)
Ar. Ramirez (2nd)
B. Roberts (3rd)
Votto (6th)
Beckham (7th)
Cuddyer (7th)
Nolasco (7th)
Mauer (8th)
Broxton (8th)
Ethier (10th)
Danks (12th)
Sandoval(14th)
Je. Weaver(16th)
Wandy (18th)

So, in my mind Han. Ram, Sandoval and Mauer are no-brainers. I'd like to keep Bechkham, but for a 7th he's still a little over-valued (I'm still leaning towards it). Weaver & Wandy are both great value keepers, Votto for a 6th is pretty good, but I'm only saving a round or two of value. I think I'd be better off trying to trade him and Ethier for picks, and pick up pena or billy butler or someone.

Thoughts? Leave a link and I'll offer my best advice in return.

Thanks!

Well first off... don't tell me someone gave up Hanley straight up like that???? ... but anyways, yea obviously Hanley and Mauer, then i'd say Haren for sure, Sandoval, Ar. Ramirez, and Votto... Then draft some pitching hardcore. Weaver and Wandy shouldn't be kept, they're solid but your offensive guys are better so you should keep them, and then draft them in the late single digit rounds IMO.

I wouldn't keep Haren at the cost of a 1st rounder.

For sure keep Wandy - - that's a no brainer for an 18th rounder! Eithier's good value in the 10th and I also like Danks in the 12th.

Help with mine:

Do you know what pitchers are available for the draft? Might trade Haren for Ethier if some good pitching is available in the draft.

Han. Ram (1st+20th)
Haren (1st)
Votto (6th)
Mauer (8th)
Sandoval(14th)
Wandy (18th)

HanRam wasn't straight up.. but JJ for a 10th rounder was what the owner was going for in the deal since he was out of the playoffs. I don't think I would have pulled off the deal if I was on his side, but he was willing so...

You'd keep ArRam and his injuries over someone like Beckham?

They'll be a few top tier pitchers re-entering the draft I think. Webb, johan, Peavy, Cliff Lee, Hamels, Lacky all seem likely to fall back into the pool. I think I could get back Haren (or someone close to this caliber)in the 2nd if I don't keep him.
