Keeper selection and draft pick feedback WHIR

Postby ajk816 » Wed Feb 24, 2010 1:53 pm

I'm in a 10 team H2H 5x5 league (HR, R, RBI, SB, OBP + W, K, ERA, WHIP, S) with a two questions. First is regarging keepers. Our rules allow you to keep two players drafted in rounds 6 and higher. I have a couple options: Tulo 9th, Hill 10th (all FAs are 10th), Nelson Cruz 14th and Adam Jones 18th. Some other teams have a bounty of players as well, so I could look for a trade from:
Reynolds 9/Nolasco 12/Weaver 25
JJohnson 13/Lind 18/Choo 19
Grienke 9/JUP 15/Wandy 26
Felix 7/McCutchen 24/Hanson 26
Zimm 10/Ubaldo 18/Swisher 21

So Tulo as a 9th rounder is an obvious selection. I'd obviously be fine with Jones in the 18th, but I'm questioning whether I should try for someone else.

Part B: The draft. We had our lottery and luckily I got the 2nd pick. If Albert goes first, am I crazy to pass on Hanley at 2? I already have Tulo and it would seem wasteful to take another SS, when I only have the SS and UTL positions. Thanks in advance and I'll be happy to provide help in return.

You have enough to choose from, I would not trade.

There will be a ton of OF's later on, I would be happy keeping Hill and Tulo.
I see what you mean about passing on HRam but you almost have to take him. I would take HRam still and throw him into Utility. Worse case scenario you have trade options after the draft.
If you don't want to take him can you trade picks? Maybe trade down with someone in the 1st and you can move up in 2nd.

I'd say keep Hill & Tulo. Late round OFs are a dime a dozen.

I think you're almost forced to take HanRam and I don't think that would be insane for your utility slot. Plus it would irritate some people to see that you have the top 2 SS, I'm sure :-D If nothing else, him and/or tulo makes great trade bait down the round.

Gotta go with HRam in the #2 spot. I'd consider trading Tulo for Lind & Choo - - great value in the 18th & 19th rounds. Who cares if OFs are plentiful? You'll never find either one of these guys available that late.

I would take Tulo and Hill. Second, you MUST take HanRam at second. Those of us who have Tulo are banking on a huge year (just like last year), but you never know. You can always plug Tulo in a MI or a UTIL spot. HanRam is almost the best offensive player in a really scare position.

I'd go Tulo and Adam Jones (although I am higher on him than most). I would also definetly select HanRam. I know 2 SS seems like a waste, but this gives you great trade flexibility and worst case scenario it gives you the best UTIL in the league.
