Rank these potential 1st round picks, keeper league... WHIR

Postby Mr November » Tue Feb 23, 2010 1:49 pm

My 8 keepers are...

Utley
Beckham
Reynolds
Quinten
Adam Jones
Kershaw
Josh Johnson
Javier Vazquez

Standard 5v5, 12 team league.

Potential people left with my first round pick in not particular order...

Tommy Hanson
Pappelbon
Billy Butler
John Lackey
Beltran
Derek Lee
Wandy Rodriguez
Brett Anderson
Adam Dunn
Carlos Pena
Chone Figgins
Dan Uggla
Shane Victorino

I'm leaning towards Hanson, as I really like the thought of Kershaw/Hanson for the future.

Thoughts?!

Not in love with that list at all. Here's how I would rank them though:

Figgins
Dunn

Butler
Hanson
Lee
Victorino
Uggla

Pappelbon
Rodriguez
Lackey
Anderson
Pena
Beltran

Not sure if that helps.

Ya it's rough going with 96 players kept and picking 8th in the 1st round (103 players gone). I guess the only solace is that it's technically the 9th round? lol

I'm always so nervous with Dunn. Love the OF/1B flexibility but the batting average scares me, especially considering I already have Mark Reynolds lol.

Yeah I just stuck him there because that's where he belongs but I'm not a fan either. If you could get Figgins and Butler that should help your team BA. I would try to avoid Dunn and Pena, I think you already have a strong power base.

Some good upside pitchers to choose from. I'm would rank as follows:

Hanson - He is the real deal.
Victorino (primarily because you need a little more speed on your team. Figgins might steal more, but you already have a 3B)
Wandy
Butler (you need a 1B, and I think he will build off of last year and be a strong keeper candidate. I like him more than DLee, Pena, etc)
Brett Anderson
Lackey (might be better than Anderson this year, but maybe not. I think his best years are behind him)
DLee - risk
Dunn - risk
Pena - risk
Uggla - risk
Beltran - risk. would be much higher if not for the recent surgery
Papelbon. Just my personal preference. I never pay much for saves...even if it's Rivera, Nathan or Papelbon

Thanks for the help guys. Hanson just got taken 2 picks before me. Such as my luck. :-t

Leaning towards Butler now. I think I can get speed later for my 3rd OF spot (Bourn, Morgan, etc.) and I'm also targeting Escobar at SS. What ya think?

Yeah I would go with Butler since you need a 1B. He should have a good avg at the very least. Plus as has been mentioned, he is probably your best bet to become a good keeper (unless you want a pitcher than Brett Anderson is an excellent keeper candidate imo)

Help with mine...thanks
