Keeper suggestions: Wieters, Sizemore or Cruz?

Postby Dodgerfan23 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 11:51 am

Good morning,

I am in a 5x5 HTH League. We have to keep 4 hitters and 4 pitchers. Below is my current roster from the previous year. I have put stars next to my proposed keepers and I welcome your ideas and thoughts.

LEAGUE SET-UP
(C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF, UTIL, 6 BENCH, 2 SP, 2 RP, 3P)

Thanks DF23

Matt Wieters***
Prince Fielder ***
Chris Coghlan
Pablo Sandoval ***
Alexei Ramírez
Josh Hamilton
Grady Sizemore
Justin Upton ***
Carlos Quentin
Clint Barmes
Russell Branyan
Josh Willingham
Nelson Cruz
Jermaine Dye

(I am really struggling with the 4th hitter. Sizemore, Cruz or Wieters???)

Yovani Gallardo ***
Carl Pavano
Bobby Jenks
Brad Lidge
Tommy Hanson ***
Chris Carpenter ***
Matt Cain ***
Barry Zito

(I like the 4 I have picked here and believe I can aquire saves in the draft.)

Sizemore over Wieters is a no brainer for me, in fact I would even keep Hamilton over Wieters.

Sizemore vs. a top catcher is an interesting question. Do not think about Cruz.

I think, in this league setup (1 catcher), I take Sizemore. In a 2C setup, I probably lean to Sizemore as well, but it's much closer (and would be the atcher if you were talking about a top notch catcher, which Wieters MAY be in 2010, but more likely 2011 or 2012).

Agree with above. Sizemore is coming back healthy and entering the well-known 27-year-old year, he'll bounce back with a vengeance, probably pull a 30-30 season which makes him much more valuable than Wieters. Definitely keep Sizemore.

Thank you. All great points regarding Sizemore. My concern has been the Indians lineup and his ability to have a big season if those average Indians produce, well average. Wieters looked good with respect to his potential this season as well as the thiness at catcher in general and I can lock him up. That said I like Ryan Doumit as my line for having to pick a catcher.
