12 team H2H 5X5 - Keep 4 - Salary Cap $255 - 23 man roster
C Suzuki ($14) 1B Tex ($16) - we get 1 player half price, so $16 instead of $33 2B Zobrist ($10) SS Tulo ($22) 3B OF A. Dunn ($20) OF M. Bourn ($15) OF T. Snider ($5) or Colby Rasmus ($7) DH Votto ($16)
SP J. Sanatan ($25) SP T. Hanson ($13) SP U. Jimenez ($16) SP SP Strasburg ($1) (if he starts)
RP M. Gonzalez ($5) RP O. Dotel ($1)
I have plenty of cap space ($68) but don't want to blow it all if I don't have to (of course) . The top 3B are gone. My instincts say take Beltre at $8, then try to take some youngster like Brett Wallace at $1 or David Freese ($2) to back him up. That way I can get 1 more solid pitcher (Dempster, Jurrjens) and 1 more solid OF (maybe Vlad, Manny, Ibanez) Chipper is there but expensive ($18).Cantu is there ($13) A complete list: Blake ($15) Cantu ($13) DeRosa ($13) Lowell ($12) Peralta ($10) Kouzmanoff ($6) Troy Glaus (qualifies) ($7) Alex Gordon ($9)
Last but not least, I could shoot my wad and buy 2B Aaron Hill for a whooping ($28) and slide Zobrist over to 3B to solve my problem.
I'd like to give a big thanks to everyone out there for assisting me through my slow draft. As usual it's a big help to settle those "50/50" type situations you're in. Plus you can get locked in and quit thinking clearly during a slow draft, so to get other perspectives is helpful and the cafe is the best place to get knowledgeable answers. I am about finished with my draft this year---I'm not thrilled with my team but I can work with it.
That being said, after my draft is over, i will, as always, be on here to help in any way I can to answer other's questions. I figure I'm especially useful in salary-cap and value (sleeper type) questions so look for me!
Cantu is an easy choice. I've been targeting him in many of my leagues. I'm not falling in to those 3rd round 3rd baseman runs. Cantu or Young work just fine for me.
I'm definitely taking Beltre. He moves out of a ballpark that is death on right-handed power hitters to one that is quite favorable to them. His price tag is real cheap, and I think Beltre is a top 10-12 3B this year.
+1 on Beltre. The other options just aren't all that attractive. At least Beltre stays relatively healthy outside of having hist testicle smashed. I can see Cantu as a reasonable option, but Beltre has mashed on the road the last few years. 2007/2008 he had 15 hrs outside of Safeco both years with BA in the 280 and 290 range. Put him in Fenway he is capable of huge numbers. It's a bit scary that his numbers in almost 60 ABs in Fenway have yielded a sub .200 BA and zero hrs, but you figure it should be different with Fenway as home...and not facing BOS pitching.
