A-Going Going Gone - Muy Bueno (WHIR!)

Postby jmcampbe11 » Mon Feb 22, 2010 8:22 pm

10 team roto league with three keepers. A.Gonzalez is not one of my keepers so I'm leaning towards accepting this. It would give me two picks in the 1st round and an upgrade in one of the later rounds. Good move?

Send Adrian Gonzalez, SD 1B from 1B to Remodelers
Send 5th Round Draft Pick (46th Overall) to Remodelers
Send 9th Round Draft Pick (86th Overall) to Remodelers
Receive 4th Round Draft Pick (40th Overall) from Remodelers
Receive 8th Round Draft Pick (78th Overall) from Remodelers

Other things to consider -

1) Longoria, Greinke and Sizemore are my keepers

2) The following trade was made a few days ago, which sort of sent the benchmark for draft pick trading.

TEAM A Sends Holliday
TEAM A Sends 4th Round Draft Pick (40th Overall)
TEAM A Sends 6th Round Draft Pick (60th Overall)
TEAM A Receives 4th Round Draft Pick (38th Overall)
TEAM A Receives 5th Round Draft Pick (58th Overall)

Well, at first glance I would say no. It would be possible to pick him up then. Also, why not keep him instead of Sizemore? I believe the guy trading Holliday got the short end of the stick in that other trade, though. If he only sent one pick, it would be better. With all of this said, I'd say make the trade only if you can get out of giving up the 9th round pick or maybe send a worse pick.

It took A LOT of prodding to get the other owner to up the ante to this. I don't think I can push my luck by asking for more. It's either this trade or nothing.

As for Sizemore, I like his upside. Going into last season he was a 1st rounder and I'm basically giving him a mulligan for last season since he was injured. All reports I've read say he's 100% now and ready to go.

I understand Sizemore over A-Gon.. I just don't know if I would trade him. You aren't gaining THAT much in this trade. I guess after keepers are chosen, maybe it will give you a good value pick. My gut in this situation is telling me to make him draft Adrian Gonzalez because it helps him way more. I don't have much experience in roto though, so take this for a grain of salt.

I think you should be getting more in return here than basically a first round pick which is also costing you a second

Really I'd probably lean more towards keeping gonzalez over sizemore.

I guess what it comes down to is do you think you can get a player as good as a-gone with that draft pick?

Pick upgrades even this slight in a keep 3 or similarly shallow league are worth it.

Just think that someone reached on A-Gonz in the draft; no biggie, right? You're moving up quite a lot here in the context of your league.

Well done.

There are a lot of good players getting tossed back. Here's a short list of some of the best. My thought is, I make this trade I'll probably target a SS with my 1st pick (maybe Jeter to balance out the poor batting average of Longoria/Sizemore) then maybe the best available bat after that.

Mauer
mcCann
Reyes
Rollins
Jeter
Pedroia
Roberts
Phillips
Zimmerman
Sandoval
Youkilis
Reynolds
Votto
Morneau
Werth
Lind

Wow, looking at that, I might say do it. IMO, Youk and Pablo are not too much worse than A-Gon.

Defintely make that trade.

And I'd go so far as to have Zimmerman, Mauer, Sandy, Reyes, and others ahead of Jeter even with a 3B already. Lots of talent here; be careful zeroing in on Jeter.

If those are some guys you think are there then I'd most certainly make that deal and improve at another position or get someone on the same level
