Dynasty Trade Offer WHIR

Postby curl » Mon Feb 22, 2010 2:45 pm

I'm in a deep h2h dynasty league (20 teams, 25 keepers). It's 6x6 with holds and OPS as the 2 extra categories.

I was offered the following trade:

My:

Jon Lester
94th pick in the draft (out of 100)

For:

Jake Peavy
Erik Bedard
51st pick in the draft
91st pick in the draft

Now, I'm with other people in thinking that Lester could be great this year, but is this a good enough value to consider? I was a playoff team last year and my core is young, so assuming some progression, I expect to be better. So, I might not need much to put me over the top. I guess the question is, is the drop from Lester to Peavy small enough to take a chance on a guy like Bedard who, despite the obvious injury concerns, is very good? The draft pick upgrade is really just icing (I may be able to reach for the 30th pick in place of the 51st pick if I so chose), although at this point, I'm really unsure of the value of the draft here outside of the top few picks.

My expected roster at this point:

C Joe Mauer
1b Chris Davis
2b Ian Kinsler
3b Pablo Sandoval
ss Yunel Escobar
of Nelson Cruz
of Matt LaPorta
of Michael Brantley
util Brandon Wood
util Mike Cameron
bench Lars Anderson
bench Conor Jackson
bench Ben Francisco/Nate Schierholtz (haven't decided which)

SP (with 11 starts max a week):

John Danks
Jeremy Bonderman
Jon Lester
Ricky Nolasco
Jeff Niemann
Kevin Correia
Francisco Liriano

RP:

Heath Bell
David Aardsma
Jose Valverde
Angel Guzman
Darren O'Day

I think I would stick with Lester. I can't see there being anybody really tempting at those two draft spots. I think Peavy goes backward in Chicago and Bedard is on my "never draft" list.

I would stick with Lester as well. The picks will likely just be fliers by that point.
