Help with Draft Priorities WHIR!!!

Postby sman » Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:26 pm

Hey all, I'm hoping to get some help with my draft as far as what my priorities should be in terms of the draft. I was allowed to keep ten last year and have listed them below. I know I'm pretty much set for starting pitchers, my question is should I go for needs first or just draft the best available player and go for trades? We do have one Util spot for hitters as well, so I could draft best available and just throw them in there.

I am in a head to head ten team keeper league on Yahoo! which uses these stats R, H, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP, W, CG, SHO, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB. The roster is C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN.

1B Justin Morneau
2B Ian Kinsler
1B/3B Mark Reynolds
OF Ichiro Suzuki
OF Shane Victorino

SP Johan Santana
SP Jon Lester
SP Zack Greinke
SP Javier Vazquez
RP Joe Nathan

I'm going to list the best available by position in my opinion. I'm going to do about five to six per position except for maybe outfielders and pitchers so it isn't overkill. This is pretty much in order of how I think they're ranked by position with the possible exception of RP.

C - Matt Wieters, Russell Martin, Mike Napoli, Kurt Suzuki, Jorge Posada, Ryan Doumit
1B - Lance Berkman, Derrek Lee, Carlos Pena, Billy Butler
2B - Brandon Phillips, Brian Roberts, Robinson Cano, Dan Uggla
3B - Aramis Ramirez, Michael Young, Chipper Jones, Gordon Beckham, Mark DeRosa
SS - Alexei Ramirez, Elvis Andrus, Yunel Escobar, Miguel Tejada, Asdrubal Cabrera, Ryan Theriot
OF - Shin-Soo Choo, Curtis Granderson, Adam Lind, Andrew McCutchen, Denard Span, Carlos Lee, Adam Dunn, Hunter Pence, Carlos Gonzalez
SP - Ubaldo Jimenez, Wandy Rodriguez, Chad Billingsley, Ricky Nolasco, Scott Baker, Ryan Dempster, Jered Weaver, John Danks, Jair Jurrjens, Brett Anderson
RP - Andrew Bailey, Brian Wilson, Rafael Soriano, Huston Street, Francisco Cordero, Trevor Hoffman, Billy Wagner, Kerry Wood, Bobby Jenks, Brad Lidge, Chad Qualls, Frank Francisco, Carlos Marmol, Ryan Franklin, Mike Gonzalez

Should I target my needs first, SS, C, OF, or should I just gun for the best available player? I realize that one of the OF I have listed may be the best available. I was jut hoping to get some input.

Also, who would be your top five guys out of these choices? If you don't feel like doing this, that's cool, I know I'm asking a lot!

Leave a link and I'll get back to you!

These are guys I like in no particular order. It would also help to know what pick you have unless you don't yet either.
Carlos Lee, Elvis Andrus, Adam Dunn(you could use some pop), Matt Wieters, Adam Lind

You should go for best available, considering you are a little short on power. I really like Asdrubal, and hope he can have a good year. Since Wieters is available, you should certainly grab him. I also second the choice of Dunn.

I would also target some power. I would go with Weiters and Dunn.
