I'm in a 12 team, 6 keeper league in it's 3rd year. I've got some so-so keepers on my team such as Jonathan Broxton and Josh Hamilton. Don't get me wrong, they're good players with upside. But I'm going to need better talent to compete with the top teams. Here's a rundown of the type of talent thats available if you haven't already deducted.....
Andre Either Nate McLouth Ricky Nolasco Gordon Beckham Chad Billingsley Jay Bruce
and so on and so forth. So what I'm asking is who, of the players that should be available in this set-up, would be the guys that have the upside to be top 10-20 players down the road? For instance, I like Beckham. But I don't know if I should be expecting an Ian Kinsler type upside or more of a Brandon Phillips type upside. Who are the guys with the potential to be those top 2 round picks that I'm so sorely lacking right now?
This is so hard to answer without knowing who's available. I would say that I'd never keep an RP in a keeper. Broxton is fairly young, and pretty good, but there are so many WW RPs out there that become useful.
I like Beckham, though he is being INCREDIBLY hyped this preseason. Still, he's got amazing potential, and at 2B/3B could be incredibly useful. Not sure he'd ever be a top 10/20 pick, though.

Thanks for the response. I know this question is a bit tough to answer, but the keepers this year have only been declared by a handful of teams and I'm trying to get an early jump on the draft. Broxton would be tougher to keep if I had better options over him, but I really don't. I have Carpenter who is injury prone and older. I have Beltran who is the same.
I like mclouth....i have kept him in my keeper legue for the last few yrs....always getting trade requests for him too....beckman...and if u have carpenter are you really not thinking of keeping him...i would i you really dont then go withBruce or Broxton as the 3rd

I agree that these 2 are your top upside guys... but I do think Beckham may be as high as a 2nd rounder in a few years. 2B is getting deeper, but I think Utley tails off in the next 2-3 years a bit and Beckham is there to take the top spot... imho I think he may be a notoriously slow season starter in his career, but patience will pay off over the long run. The guy is a bball rat just like Utley and you just don't get those types often
Bruce has a few more years to prove himself and needs a lot more plate discipline before he's a top OF, depth of OFs and his lack of speed makes him a bit less appealing...
