URGENT: Ok, I have my first pick--who do I target second??

Postby 05worldserieschamps » Fri Feb 19, 2010 12:00 pm

I'm in the first year a keeper league where each player is allowed to be kept for 2 years ONLY. I draft TOMORROW!

I have the 9th pick in a serpentine draft. I plan on drafting Miggy Cabrera first if he's available. If not probably Kemp/Crawford/Fielder. But let's say I get Cabrera.

Now it's the second round and I have the 4th pick (16th overall.) Who should I draft?

Should I go ahead and grab a pitcher? If so, which one? (Felix looks good in a keeper. Or should I go ahead with Halladay if he's available? Or Greinke?)

Or should I stay with the hitters theme and get a Mauer/Howard/Longoria type player? Or if they're not available, Upton/Ellsbury?

What do you guys think?
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.

fill out your infield first, worry about SP and OF for the mid rounds. Unless you get a real deal

I would grab Texieria over Miggy, if he's there, with 12 teams i doubt he'll fall to 9th, but don't worry go for Longo, or a Tulo or Kinsler in the 2nd round, youre not gonna draft another guy for awhile and the fall off with SS is huge this year, dont get stuck with jose reyes or a guy batting 8th or 9th somewhere.

Longoria will be long gone by the 16th pick, he's a legit first rounder, ditto on Howard.

After the obvious top 5, I'd go Tex, Kemp, Fielder, and Miggy, in that order for the 9th pick.

Don't take a pitcher there, Upton's a good choice if he's there.

After what Crawford did last year, and I think he's in a contract year(right?) I would be jumping at Craw end of first draft personally, not big on Cabrera especially while he's 'dealing with things'. By 16, I would expect someone would drop to you at that point, but get an ace by the third pick if you can. Not against Felix(especially if you play QS instead of Win's, hes a 1 Earned Run loser 8 times a year...)

Did someone really say "don't get stuck with Jose Reyes"? Personally, I hope to get "stuck" with Reyes in every league I can. Not saying I would draft him in the first round (mainly because I won't have to), but... Well, I'm just sayin.

Given your league setup, my main advice is that I would try to forget you're in a keeper league.

If you only get to keep guys for 2 years, it's almost like a redraft league. There aren't a ton of guys that are going to fall off a cliff in a 2 year span, and anyone that is going to blow up is already going to get drafted high anyway.

Just pick the best player available (esp. in round 2). If a pitcher is that guy, go for it (although I'd stick with bats for the first few rounds at least).
