Not sure what forum to post this in, so hopefully it's ok here.
I'm playing in a 12 team espn h2h league that's scoring on points similar to how some NBA leagues run. Here's the scoring system:
Hitting
Singles (1B) 1 Doubles (2B) 2
Triples (3B) 3 Home Runs (HR) 4
Walks (BB) 1 Runs Scored (R) 1
Runs Batted In (RBI) 1 Stolen Bases (SB) 1
Strikeouts (K) -1 Caught Stealing (CS) -1
Ground into Double Plays (GIDP) -1 Hitting for the Cycle (CYC) 10
Errors (E) -1
Pitching
Innings Pitched (IP) 3 Earned Runs (ER) -2
Wins (W) 10 Losses (L) -5
Saves (SV) 5 Blown Saves (BS) -3
Strikeouts (K) 1 Hits Allowed (H) -1
Walks Issued (BB) -1 Shutouts (SO) 10
Hit Batsmen (HB) -1 Wild Pitches (WP) -1
Balks (B) -1 Holds (HD) 3
Complete Games (CG) 5 No Hitters (NH) 25
Perfect Games (PG) 50
For positions we have C/1b/2b/ss/3b/OF/LF/CF/RF/UTIL/UTIL then P/P/P/SP/SP/RP/RP.
So it's a bit of a weird system. I ran the league settings through baseball monster for last season, and found that the top 12, 22 of the top 24, and 38 of the top 48 players in this scoring system were pitchers (4 were closers). Below is a small sample of player values:
greinke: 749
lincecum: 721
halladay: 711
hernandez: 696
josh johnson (12th best pitcher here): 551
pujols: 545
braun (2nd best hitter): 462
rollins (hitter # 11): 401
guys like ubaldo jimenez and jered weaver are in the top 20.
#s hit about 300 once we get to player #130 or so, and players ranked in the 22nd round had about 210 points last year.
Am I right that this system
1) values innings-eater pitchers a ton?
2) indicates I should draft a lot of SP?
Any other thoughts on the scoring system and how I should change my draft strategy are appreciated.
