1st pick in 10 team,10keeper draft...WHIR

Postby bigjakelane » Thu Feb 18, 2010 9:45 am

I'm headed in to the 5th year of our 10 team, 10 keeper league. I've just traded for the 1st overall pick and need help deciding who to take. My team is as follows:

C-Brian McCann
1B-Miggy Cabrera
2B-Ian Kinsler
SS-Jimmy Rollins
3B-Evan Longoria
Lf-Matt Holliday
Cf-Matt Kemp
Rf-Justin Upton
Util-Ryan Braun
Sp-Johan Santana

Obriously I will be targeting pitching early, and I also have the 10th pick in the first round and the 1st pick of the second round. Of these availabe starting pitchers, who would you take as 1st pick, and who to take if they make it to the end of the 1st round/beginning second round:

Steven Strasburg, Chris Carpenter, Tommy Hanson, Ubalod Jimenez, Chad Billingsley, Brett Anderson, Roy Oswalt, Max Scherzer, Jared Weaver, DAvid Price

Thank you for you input, and i will help in return

I'd rank them

Hanson
Billingsley (Bills and Ubaldo are very close but give nod to Bills for ballpark)
Jimenez
Strasburg (I'd stretch a bit here for future keeper purposes only... not 2010 production)
Carpenter (health concerns)
Scherzer (workload / shoulder concerns. but taking the upside and K potential here)
Oswalt or Weaver... pretty even in my eyes with slight nod to Weaver for health, Ws and Ks
Price
Andersen

Help me with my keepers/draft here:

Yep....I would agree with this except for Strasburg as he is great for Keeper potential....but Hanson, Bills, and Jimenez will be there along with Strasburg and are so much further along and will contribute alot more this year....looking at picks ten and the 1st pick in the second round...hopefully another one of Bills, Jimenez, and Carpenter is available and even better if two.

I would love to see who else is being kept over some of these guys....

Hanson
Billingsley
Jimenez
Carpenter
Strasburg
Price
Scherzer

Weaver
Oswalt

this would be the order i would draft them in. obviosuly if your looking for more a keeper for the future strasburg would be your best bet but the hanson is still young and already proven so i would def take him first out of this group. Carpenter will be good if he stays healthy but thats no guarantee. Hope this helped.

I have a new twist to this-I was just offered Joe Mauer for Brian McCann and my first overall pick. Now this pick is one I traded for, and still have my first pick which is 10th overall, plus the first pick of the second round. Do I pull the trigger on the deal? Is Joe Mauer that much better than Brian McCann. Can I afford not to pick up a pitcher at the beginnin of the draft? Again, WHIR.
