4 questions that could make or break my draft, WHIR!

Postby midwestpatsfan » Wed Feb 17, 2010 9:45 am

Hi all,
I was hoping I could pick your brains on a few questions I have that could make or break my draft. I am in a 10 team, 10x10 roto league. The categories are
R's, 2b, 3b, hr, rbi, avg., k's, e's, steals, bb

W's, L's, ERA, K's, WHIP, SV, holds, cg's, shutouts, hr's allowed

Okay, so here are my questions.
1. Based on our categories, who do I take in the 1st. I have the 4th pick but I know that a pitcher is going before me(dumb)so I will be picking either Arod, Utley or Braun. My gut tells me Arod but would take any suggestions.

2. Do I need to put more value on pitching? In our league, pitching goes early and often. I thought I had a solid staff last year, but as you can tell, pick 4 means I did something wrong.

3. Again, based on how I think the draft will go I think I will have a shot at either Howard, Cabrera, or Fielder in the 2nd. With our scoring in mind, which of those 3 is my best bet?

4. I would love any advice on some later round gems that would fit our scoring system.

Thanks so much

I would be tempted to go Arod in first round and take Reyes in the second if available. Triples being a category all to itself, and him playing in that monsterous park, he could score big in your league. Plus you fill what I think are the two weakest fantasy positions this year with your first two picks.

I would go with Arod for my first pick and if you can get any of the other 3 you listed, I would go with that too. I prefer Fielder out of the 3.

As far as pitching, one of my leagues favors pitchers too and I have a tendency to go along with the trend. I try to get at least 1 ace in the first 3 rounds.
