Would you trade Pujols for Miggy Cabrera and David Wright?

Postby scotty_pod » Wed Feb 17, 2010 1:36 am

I am a big believer in trading 2 slightly lesser players for one amazing player. Especially in a keeper league.

on the other hand....I am a big believer in selling high...and i just don't see Pujols getting any better than he was this year. Eventually he slows down, has surgery, etc.

Normally I would never trade a player as valuable as him for two lesser parts, but i'm thinking this might be the time to do it.

thoughts?

hard to say without seeing the rest of your roster. who does wright replace at 3b?

without hearing all the facts i'm inclined to say no... but i'm not as high on wright as most and i'm probably higher than most on pujols (if thats possible?)

Yeah, hard to say without seeing your roster. I'd be inclined to say no, but depending on your roster and keepers and such I may take such a deal.

As far as Value, yes I probably would trade Pujols for that. If you compare a 3 year average on Pujols and Miggy, Pujols only has an extra four home runs and 2 RBI's on Miggy (although Miggy had about 50 more AB's). Pujols walks more, and has a slightly higher BA (both are over .310) but when you add Wright to the deal it makes sense to do the trade.

I'd take the chances with Cabrera and Wright.

value wise you're not getting any better than that for PUJOLS.

Like T-d store said, on average Miggy is VERY comparable to Pujols, dont try and convince a hardcore pujols fan that, but they both hit for high average, drive in a ton of runs, hit HRs' above 30.... plus the addition of Wright? I think its very good value.

Wright will hit 15+ HR's this year and I'd say more around the 20-25 range. He didn't only NOT hit at METCO last year he didn't hit HR's on the road. He had zero protection with beltran down all year, no reyes, and delgado MIA. With BAY, a healthy reyes, and MAYBE beltran coming back... he'll no doubt have a better year. I dont think his power can be wrote off aftr ONE YEAR.

I like the deal, but have to say that MCab does not drive in a ton of runs in this Tigers lineup. He just won't. There isn't enough around him. Pujols will have 35 RBI's on him probably. Pujols average will be slightly higher, will hit about the same number of homeruns, and probably steal a few more bases. But assuming Wright is replacing someone bad at 3B, then this is a good deal. Not an unbelievable deal, but it will help you.

It depends less on the roster and more on the league size, imo. If it's a deep league I want Cabrera and Wright, if it's shallow I'd want Pujols.
