Y.Escobar FOR J.Bay (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:39 am

We keep 12 players yearly, with an extra minor leaguer. Players have 3 year contracts and then become free agents. Right now Jay Bay is my current keeper. I would like to improve @ SS, heading into the draft. General Rule of thumb being its one of the weakest positions out there. I would be saving $2 before the auction begins. Each team begins the draft with $260 minus your keepers salaries. Active roster must always adhere to the $305 salary cap.

I GET:
SS - Y.Escobar $13 (3) (last year of his contract)
Can he finally stay healthy for a full season? Could be hitting 6th or 7th in a solid Braves lineup, and is hitting the ripe old "fantasy age" of 27, usually where players take off. Does he make the jump to the top 5 tier SS in baseball? (H-Ram/Rollins/Reyes/Tulo/Jeter)

HE GETS:
OF - J.Bay $15 (3) (last year of his contract)
Moves back to the NL, where he has had success before in the spacious PNC Park, however CITI Field is a whole new can of worms, look what it did to David Wright?

My Offseason Roster: We start 2 at each position around the diamond, and 6-OF plus 8-Pitchers
(Can only keep 12 players)

C - V.Martinez $30 (2)
C - C.Iannetta $1 (3)
1B - A.Pujols $44 (3)
1B - K.Morales $11 (2)
2B - C.Utley $free agent$
2B - M.Prado $3 (2)
SS - O.Cabrera $free agent$
SS - E.Aybar $4 (2)
3B - A.Ramirez $free agent$
3B - A.LaRoche $1 (2)
OF - J.Bay $15 (3)
OF - C.Lee $42 (2)
OF - C.Hart $free agent$
OF - C.Coghlan $7 (2)
OF - BJ.Upton $free agent$
OF - D.Fowler $3 (3)
P - T.Lincecum $free agent$
P - A.Wainwright $18 (2)
P - J.Johnson $1 (3)
P - C.Lee $3 (3)
P - A.J. Burnett $free agent$
P - T.Hudson $3 (2)
P - J.Valverde $free agent$
P - F.Cordero $21 (2)

BENCH:
1B - J.Smoak $2 (2)
3B - P.Alvarez $5 (2)
OF - J.Borbon $3 (2)
2B/3B - R.Roberts $1 (2)
P - J.Hammel $1 (2)
P - J.P.Howell $2 (2)

For me, that's about even given the prices.

I'm not very bullish on Bay - I'm expecting 25 HR in the new digs, plus he's a AVG killer. Yunel only puts up a great AVG, but the rest of his line is decent across the board and the weakness at SS keeps him in the top 10.

I don't know that Yunel would even be a keeper for you. I would keep Bay at that price way before I would keep Yunel at his price.
