Please Help with Keeper Selection

Postby Goldenboy86 » Tue Feb 16, 2010 11:37 am

I need help with a couple of questions I have with regards to my keeper. It's a 10 team, 7x7 H2H league. The keeper rules are based on ESPN's ADP and divided by tiers.

ADP (1-40)= Tier I
ADP (41-80) = Tier II
ADP (81-120) = TIer III
ADP > 120 = Tier IV

You get one “free” keeper from each of the tiers, and may select a 2nd keeper from each of the tiers (up to six total keepers), but a 2nd keeper results in a forfeited draft pick (at the ends of round 2, 6, 10, and 14 respectively). Consequently, if a team doesn’t use all its keeper spots AND has an “empty tier”, they will receive a supplemental draft pick at the end of rounds 2, 6, 10, or 14, respective to which tier is empty. For example:

-Team A keeps 2 players from Tier I, 1 from Tier II, 2 from Tier 3, and 1 from Tier IV. Team A forfeits 2nd and 10th round picks.

-Team B keeps 2 players from Tier I, none from Tier II, 2 from Tier 3, and 1 from Tier IV. Team B forfeits 2nd and 10th round picks, and receives supplemental pick at the end of round 6.

Finally the questions

1. Do you think it is worth Keeping Zobrist for a 14th round pick now that he has lost his eligibility at SS and so is only available at 2B,OF?
Other options for his keeper spot Matt Wieters, Wandy Rodriguez (both for a 14th round pick as well)

2. Assuming my first four keepers are Pujols (tier I), Adam Wainwright (Tier III), Matt Cain (Tier IV), and Zobrist/Wieters/Rodriguez (Tier IV), I have two more keepers to chose.
From the list below choose an option two overall, no more than one from each group

Tier I (supplemental 2nd Round)

Matt Holliday
David Wright

Tier II (6th Round)
James Shields
Russell Martin

Tier III (supplemental 10th Round)

Scott Baker
Chone Figgins

Basically it comes down to this which is better for my a combo of Matt Holliday and Chone Figgins, or David Wright and Scott Baker but maybe you see something I don't. Tell me what you think.

I'd definitely go for wright as supplemental 2 round. Not sure about the pitchers. Depends how high in the draft pitchers usually go in your league. Every league is different that way.

I would go with Holliday and Figgins.

Sporting News Ranks:
Holliday #11 overall
Wright #15 overall
Figgins #75 overall
Baker #152

Wright is at 3B which is thinner than usual this season IMO, but Figgins gives you a head start on runs and SBs (Avg. too )so you need power, which is where Holliday comes in.

Either way Holliday or Wright are worth giving up the draft pick.

Figgins also.
