Help Me With My 3rd Base Problem

Postby Remotethumb » Sun Feb 14, 2010 5:33 pm

12 team 5X5 H2H salary cap $255 (each team keeps 4 plus any minor leaguers called up) start 1 each pos. & DH - 5 SP 2 RP - This is a salary cap league so once again my situation involves analyzing VALUE.
My team so far:
c
1b Tex
2b Zobrist
ss Tulo
3B
OF
OF
OF
DH Votto

BN T. Snider (called up)
BN C. Rasmus (called up)

SP T. Hanson
SP J. Santana
SP Strasburg (will be minor leaguer but I will not hesitate to call him up if he shows promise)
SP
SP

RP
RP
I've missed out on 3rd basemen. Most of the elite were kept. As one solution (as you can see my team above) I was thinking of drafting Aaron Hill at an expensive $28 and put him in at 2nd base and slide Zobrist over to 3rd base (he qualifies in this liberal-rules league) Would you think this is a better strategy or should I continue with my plan to play Zobrist at 2nd and just pick up Chipper at $18, Blake @ $15, Lowell @ $12, Gordon @ $9or maybe DeRosa @ $13?

I'm not worried about OF right now because there are many options left. I need SP but I'm already over-budget so I can let some of the bigger names get drafted right now & get the Brett Andersons of the world at $9. That's the other benefit of passing on Aaron Hill, I can take a really good OF or SP right here and try to figure out 3B later.

SIMPLY PUT :-b , is the /2B Aaron Hill 3B Zobrist/ combo a $10 better value than /2B Zobrist 3B Chipper/ combo?

How would you feel about having an infield of 2B Aaron Hill, SS Tulo, 3B B. Zobrist?

The Hill option sounds more appealing than going with Chipper at 3B. I'm a big fan of what Chipper can do when he's healthy, but I just don't trust him to stay healthy. $28 is a little steep, but probably worth paying for the peace of mind there.

I would value Hill only slightly higher than Chipper but all the salaries mentioned seem high for 12 team mixed 5x5.
