Kevin Slowey for Frank Francisco? wHIR

Postby gore51 » Sun Feb 14, 2010 3:39 pm

In my simulation league, I have been proposed Kevin Slowey for Frank Francisco.

My starting rotation is:
1. Jon Lester
2. Derek Lowe
3. Kenshin Kawakami
4. Jason Marquis
5. Zach Duke

and I have Tom Gorzelanny as a spot starter.

My bullpen is:
Gorzelanny
Ryan Madson
Ryan Franklin
Brian Wilson
Bill Bray
C.J. Wilson
Frank Francisco

Do I pull the trigger? I like Slowey as a #3 starter, but will trading Francisco leave a void in my pen? Brian Wilson and Ryan Franklin are going to become free agents in my league after this season, and Francisco still has 4 years left (Slowey has 3). In terms of minor leaguers who are close to ready, Tim Alderson, Martin Perez, Trevor Reckling, and Kasey Kiker are the only guys who could make an appearance within the next 2 years.

I'm not a fan of Slowey. It might be best to sit tight here.

I think you've got to make the trade. Your starting pitching is very weak after Lester. Assuming Slowey is healthy again I think he'll win close to 15 games for the Twins as they dominate the weak AL Central. You've got Franklin and Brian Wilson to rack up saves for you and will even get 10 out of CJ during the two or three DL stints that are inevitable for Francisco.

Thanks for your help guys. I ended up making the trade, sort of. I gave up Francisco and got Slowey and Kevin Correia back.

Wow, nicely done! Slowey for Francisco straight up would have been good for you, Correia is just a bonus.
