Help with draft strategy

Postby theplayer11 » Sun Feb 14, 2010 3:07 pm

My league this year will start a CI, MI, and a utility along with 5 OFs....Just wondering if this changes my draft strategy. Should I be targeting 2b and SS or 3b and 1B because of the extra spots.? Example..Tulo or Kingsler in 2nd round instead of say a Holliday or Crawford? I guess what I'm asking is should I pass on OF early and get an infielder. If not, then my MI would be pretty crappy and OF is always deep.

So you start 5 OF, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1 SS, 1 3B, 1 CI, 1 MI? If this is the case, your strategy shouldn't be altered too much. Adding the 5th OF (And the 4th for that matter) makes everything even back out. That being said, that means for me personally (a player who values taking infielders a little earlier b/c of scarcity) I'm keeping everything the same draft-wise and going to begin researching the guys like the Jeff Francoeurs of the world, since it will be those guys who will complete your OF if you plan on taking IFs early like I would.

OF is pretty deep this year IMO. You have two studs in Braun and Kemp in the top tier. I would target a guy like Tulo in the 2nd and a stud 3b like Zimm in the 3rd Rnd b/f taking an OF like Crawford. Their are plenty of steals to be had late in the draft w/ Nyger Morgan and Borbon, etc. The 3b and ss option will dry out much quicker.

the positions you want to closely watch are SS & 3rd base. There are alot of 2nd basemen which will fill the middle spot like 1st basemen do the corner, but your starting SS is someone you don't want hurting you. At 3rd there is a huge dropoff after the top options. Fill the left side of the infield early or at least with guys you really like & you shouldn't have much trouble with the rest of the draft.

My problem drafting 8th and again at 17..in round 2, there will probably be no SS or 3B to take. I could reach for Rollins or Zimmerman at 17, but those would be reaches. Kinsler would be there, but I think his ADP is a little high as well. It would be hard to pass on Holliday or Justin Upton there. At 32 Youk or Pablo would be a possibilities to fill 3B..but would leave me without a SS and also needing a MI at some point.
