Who should my first pick be

Postby birdbrains » Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:40 am

I pick 9thand that after we have picked our 10 keepers....who should I take first....here are the top players I see...clearly some of them will be available for me to choose from for the 1st round and maybe for the 2nd or 3rd

Jason Bay...sure to be gone...and I have Coughlan and my util position is taken by 2 2nd baseman
Denard Span...most likey will be gone...plays all 3 OF
Hunter Pence...I could use a RF...hope he is there
Shane Victorino...I like him, but I already have McLouth
Alfonso Soriano....might still be there but I dont need a LF
Johnny Damon...another LF....
Nyler Morgan...plays all 3 OF...and would lock up SB's as a win most weeks
Mike Napoli....too earlty to take a catcher
Kurt Suzuki...again a catcher
Nolan Reimold ...another LF
Mark DeRosa...love his versatilty...1st,,3rd,lf and rf...but I can only hope he is around for the 2nd round
Ricky Nolasco...will probably be gone...I need pitching
Andrew Bailey ..I have no closers...not many are left,,,but they change so often throught the yr...but Bailey might be good
Ryan Dempster...
John Danks...
Gavin Floyd...
Brian Wilson ...
Edwin Jackson ...
Neftali Feliz...
Kevin Correia...
Hiroki Kuroda...
Kevin Slowey...
Randy Wells ...
Randy Wolf ...

these are my 10 keepers .

I'm pretty big on Reimold, but he'll fall a bit. I'd go Bay first Pence 2nd. I think Pence will bounce back a bit this season.

i like all those picks...but I dont know if they will be available by the 9th pick which is mine
Reimold would be fine....I like him too...but I already have a LF...it might be too early to pick the bench players...and kendrick already has the util locked up as I have 2 2nd baseman in roberts and kendrick

Dave...interesting list...
Napoli would surely be available on first pick....might be worth waiting for him on 2nd.....isnt it too early to go to a catcher on 1st

i think the others you list and ones everyone else listed might be gone by my ninth pick....just dont know...
bay will be...span most likely...pence ... a small chance...nolasco is anyone goes for pitching he'll go right away.....and baily is the best closer available.....

i was thinking of trading kendrick to the hoffman owner just to get a closer
also was thinking of trading coughlan to the vazquez owner just to get a starting pitching ... as there are a lot of left fielders available...but i like couglans punch and youth

hey birdbrains, this is going to get a little lengthy, so my apologies.

First off, trade Coghlan for Vazquez and don't look back. Coghlan is a .300+ hitter, 10-15 HR, 60-70 RBI, 10 steals guy. Not bad if he were a 2B but instead he's an OF, so yeah trade him. (I'm a huge huge Marlins fan and have followed him throughout the minors)

I'm assuming these players will be available around your 9th pick: Nolasco, Reimold, Bailey, Slowey, Danks.

I would go with Reimold or Nolasco if Bay or Span are not available. Nolasco would give you a solid 3rd SP and also give you the Ks you need, he had a horrible season last year but he will make it up this season.

Reimold is a gold mine and many people are sleeping on him, please don't be one of them.

Andrew Bailey would secure your closer position too, especially with the As, improving their team with the acquisitions of Kevin Kouzamoff and Coco Crisp.

Kevin Slowey is great, coming off injury but great control pitcher and so is John Danks, though he may have a little more risk since from time to time his ERA will rise.

I would probably go Nolasco/Bailey 1st round and then Reimold the second one.

Good luck with your team

3B= A. Ramirez
SS= J. Reyes

Iwould trade Kendrick for Hoffman in a heartbeat. Itis a deep league, but no need to have a 2nd baseman as your util. I love Reimold and Pence. I'd grab one of them and hope Bailey is still there with your 2nd pick.
I wouldn't trade for Vazquez though, huge numbers drop off going to the AL East.
