3B Comparison: Ryan Zimmerman vs. Kevin Youkilis

Postby kweiss » Sat Feb 13, 2010 9:33 pm

Both seemed to be ranked back to back on a lot of lists.

Can we expect Zimmerman to improve on 105-30-105-.290 (or even repeat)? If he does, that would rank him ahead of Youkilis, who seems to have come into a steady 95-28-100-.300 performer.

Youkilis does have 1B/3B eligiblity over Zimmerman, at least in Yahoo leagues.

Same tier for me, but I'd prefer Zimmerman by a little bit. I actually have them lumped in with David Wright and Mark Reynolds as well honestly. I'd be happy to get the one with the steepest discount. That said, I do believe Zimmerman still has a little more power potential, and Youk is probably the safer bet for the higher BA. Runs and RBI's should be close to wash IMO. Hope my 2 cents were of assistance.

Not sure where im drafting yet but unless I get A-Rod or Longoria in 1st round I will be hoping to get one of them in the 3d. My preference would be Zim only because of his age --you would think that he still might have some upside where as Youklis probably doesent. 3b is real thin this year.

I'll start by saying... it was cool seeing you post over in the Seth Smith article at THT... had no idea you visited there... back on point.

I'd say your assessment of getting one of the two is my thinking as well. That said, in a 12 team league with no CI, I don't think it's as thin as some believe. In leagues deeper than that... it gets real thin though.

Yes saw you respond in THT --thought it was you --you play Seafight to? lol
My league has CI specific OF pos and a dH and Utility, Plus we instituted one year keeper rule. Keep one player you drafted in 11th rd or later and looks like Reynolds,Sandoval and maybe even Figgins will be kept this year. So you can see ill be scrambling for decent 3b.

I still have a lot of work to do on my rankings but the initial run came out with Sandoval, Youkilis, Zimmerman and Reynolds all pretty close to each other probably forming my tier 2 of 3B. My gut says if I had to choose between them I'd go with Youkilis.

I have Zimmerman by just a little bit because of the potential for greater power.

In my OBP league it is Youk by a lot, obviously.

I think both are very comparable, but without this sounding homerish, I would take Youk if given the choice. I like the 1B/3B eligibility and in my league we have two UT spots so the flexibility of positions makes a difference.

Long term, I think Zimm still has some room to get better while Youk has more than likely hit his ceiling.

I'll take Youkilis but it's close.

I like Zimmerman a lot and I see why his age (and thus potential) is a difference maker for some, but I'm not ready to put him above Youk just yet. Zimmerman saw a big jump in both HR/FB and FB% in general last year. It could have been a breakout or more of an aberration. We won't know for sure which until he actually does it again.

Zimmerman has more potential but Youk is a slightly safer pick at this point. I generally go with the safe choice.
