Keeper Help Kendry/Reynolds and Wainwright/Bills WHIR

Postby Montana168 » Fri Feb 12, 2010 4:59 pm

it is a yahoo h2h 5x5 10 team keeper league. we keep 8 players. my first 6 keepers are no-brainers.

C Brian McCann
1b Justin Morneau
2b/SS/OF Ben Zobrist
3b Evan Longoria
OF Matt Kemp
SP Clayton Kershaw

but im having a tough time picking my last 2 keepers out of:

1b Kendry Morales
1b/3b Mark Reynolds

SP Adam Wainwright
SP Chad Billingsley

i am going to pick 1 of those hitters and 1 of those pitchers. everyone generally keeps 1-3 SP and the rest are hitters. so i'd like to keep only 2 pitchers, and im certainly keeping kershaw. my initial thoughts at the end of last season was reynolds/bills but now im not so sure. im leaning towards kendry/wainwright. i hav the 6th pick in the 1st round, so if i want to redraft bills, he has a chance of falling to me, but wainwright will definately be the 1st or 2nd pick. also, because i have longo, i dont need reynolds at 3rd, and i have a feeling im not going to get the value reynolds is worth in this league because everyone is scared off by his k's. i gain .040+ in BA from kendry to reynolds but i lost those 15 or so more SB that reynolds gets.

as always leave a link and i will help u out as well.

Bills and Wainwright. Bills had real bad luck 2nd half with strand rate and hr/fb ratio. Only 25, his upside is big.
Wainwright is nice.

Morales is the worst of the 4. Not a good eye, and never hit for that much power before.

Reynolds is a gravity player. What goes up, must come down. His contact rate keeps getting worse. He was saved by a obscene 26% hr/fb ratio, which he can't maintain.

I agree that Reynolds won't do as well as 09, but I've still got him doing pretty damn well for a 3B with around 35 home runs. Based on his position, have to go with him. The other choice is tough, but Wainwright looks like a better bet for your ratios and wins with the Cardinals.

So Reynolds and Wainwright are my picks.

I would go with Wainwright as the SP...As for the choice between Morales and Reynolds, it is a difficult one...I would personally chose Morales because there is no indication that he cant replicate what he did last year...While Reynolds offers more in some categories, he can really hurt you in the batting average department of a H2H league.

I don't know. Never hit over 14 hrs before. A 2nd half 22% hr/fb ratio was out of his norm. His contact rate to a good dive. I expect 25 hrs with a so so average.

I am not a fan of keeping a lot of pitchers but I agree with HOOTIE in keeping Wainwright and Bills.

I think Wainright is your lock here. For a second player, I'd go with Reynolds. His power alone makes him worth it. Plus, he sprinkles in some legit SB totals. You really have 1B and 3B taken care of already, but I think Reynolds possesses more value than Billingsley and you should have a shot at him in the draft should you want to grab him.

thanks for the help guys, yeah keeping 2 pitchers is out of the question. with everyone keeping only 1-3 (and some none), the hitter pool is very thin whereas there are always SP i can draft that are solid (bills, webb, beckett, kershaw were there last yr to give you an example). HOOTIE: i know he morales had a high hr/fb ratio, but did you see the majority of his HR? i think most of them were towering shots (i.e. not right over the OF wall)...the kid has legit power, he was just never given a shot to play in LA.

still havnt made up my mind and will prob. talk to some other owners and see if i can try and get something like tulo/gallardo for reynolds/wainwright/pick...but we'll see. i agree that i think reynolds will give me the best value to trade because he is a 3b, whereas kendy is a dime-a-dozen at 1b. leaning towards wainwright/reynolds but lets see some more opinions! ;-D
