Fairness question

Please help. Second year of a 3 year keeper. Can keep up to 3 players. Team that comes in last gets to choose where they want to pick, second to last then decides where they want to pick, etc. Should teams have to announce their keepers before they choose their draft spot or should you have to choose your draft spot first?. Looking for fairness.

Both methods are fair. Everyone plays by the same rules and knows the rules ahead of time=fair.

Personally, I would say that you announce your draft order first. That way if draft pick trading is allowed in your league, you can allow teams to make deals before the keeper cut-down date.

The way we handle it is as follows.

12 team league 6 teams make the playoffs.
The 6 playoff teams draft according to final finish ( Champion picks last, ect)
The 6 Non- Playoff teams enter a lottery for the top 6 picks. This keeps people from losing to obtain a coveted draft position. I've found this works great

I would have people declare their keepers and then have people decide the draft order.

Knowing in what # you're going to draft doesn't affect your keepers much but it could make a difference the other way around.

I would have teams draft order determined by reverse order of finish, and then have a period of trading... and then the teams list their keepers confidentially, until all teams have listed their keepers, at which point the keepers are revealed to all in enough time for teams to develop their draft strategies.
