Well the A's designated Taveras for assignment with Eveland as a previous poster mentioned. Maybe Beane thinks someone will claim him and he'll essentially be getting Rosales and something in return from a claiming team? I'm not sure.

I think the main take away from this deal is that Stubbs will be given full time now for sure in Cinci.

OK so now it sounds like we got Rosales, and the Reds saved $1.7mil.

The Reds have designated Aaron Miles and Wladimir Balentien for assignment, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of CNati.com (Twitter link). We heard on the weekend that the Reds were likely to designate the pair for assignment to create roster space if GM Walt Jocketty didn't find a trade partner.

Seems like there are a lot less wasteful ways they could have saved $1.7mil *coughCorderocough*
